Happy belated National Ranger Day to UC Merced English graduate Xochitl Garibay Interiano, who is a park ranger at Golden Gate National Park in San Francisco.
She writes: “Back in April, I officially hit my 3 year mark as a park ranger. The day seemed to pass unceremoniously as I have always felt that I am not doing this job to be recognized, I do it because I care so deeply about the mission I am serving. Seeing the impacts of climate change on a smaller scale and how it has affected my sites on further my drive to help with interpretation and education of our precious natural spaces. I have immersed myself in trying to foster cultural connections so that under-served communities who feel out of place in these spaces can find solace and peace.”
Congratulations, Xochitl, and we love seeing how you are using your English degree to tell important stories about the planet and the communities you serve.
