I did an interview on Elite Embeddedness & why financiers like to be university trustees with the Chronicle of Higher Education. They also spoke to financier & Penn trustee Scott Bok who said we got it right: “[It's] a networking business. It’s useful... to be on a board that has people from all kinds of different industries.” Link to interview is in the comments.

Trump is now just as unpopular as he was at this point in his first term, more unpopular than other president at this point, and falling fast. Civil resistance to his authoritarian assault on liberty is working -- more is needed.

Endowments can’t fund everything that is threatened forever – especially at less wealthy universities. But they can buy time. Time for universities to develop a political strategy to defend themselves and allies from Trump’s assault on civil society.
This post has all the details you might ever want for how universities can use endowments to stand up to Trump.
Are Universities Preparing to Fight Back? Even Obama has called for using endowments to fight back. Can we hold the line and build a coalition to turn the tide?

I just launched a substack, Progressive Disclosure, to build on today's NYT essay about how wealthy universities can afford to fight Trump. I'm moving away from social media to this as a long form way to stay connected with you all. I took this photo while backcountry skiing. It captures how progressive disclosure is a way of thinking that can provide a broad view from a mountain top or a zoomed in view from the forest floor. I'll put a link in the comments where you can subscribe to my substack.

If not now, when? I explain how wealthy universities can and must use their endowments to fight back.

We've got a new report on how our next President could address the racial wealth gap and make college debt free for millions more students: offer a supplemental Wealth-Based Pell grant for all students who are doubly disadvantaged by low-income and low-wealth. https://buff.ly/3zgrBaS

I had a great conversation about my book on NPR Marketplace's podcast. Give it a listen:
