Hello friends of Merced! On Sunday, September 14th some of us are going to help clean up the bike/walking path over by Walmart, it’s overdue and a mess! We would love some help! Many hands make quick work!

Join us at 9am. We will meet in the Walmart parking lot way over to the left, by the new construction apartments.

A reward has been raised for the return of the Merced Applegate Zoo Bear sign.

Please keep an eye out while out and about. Let’s find the sign!

Merced City Council members offer $500 reward for the return of our Merced Applegate Zoo sign!

At the conclusion of Tuesday nights Council meeting a couple City Council members joined forces to put up a $500 reward to the person that returns the Merced Applegate Zoo Sign. The sign was stolen from the entrance of the zoo approximately 72 hrs ago. Staff are working alongside Merced PD and residents to find the sign if at all possible. That effort was substantially increased with the private investments from Councilman Mike Harris and Mayor Pro Tem Sarah Boyle who dedicated a $500 reward for the return of the sign.

Please contact Merced Police Department with any information regarding the signs whereabouts or return the sign to City of Merced Fire Department at a station near you.

Keep an eye out for the Bear and contact the police if spotted.

The mission? To clean up Bear Creek between M Street and R Street! We'll wrap up by 11:00 AM, leaving the creek looking fresher than ever.

Join us for the Bear Creek Yacht Club's "Candidates on the Creek" event on August 10! 📅

We're gathering at Strip Park/Yoga Park near 28th and "H" Streets, starting at 9:00 AM.

This isn't just a cleanup—it's a chance for our community to come together and beautify our waterways while meeting local candidates and elected officials.

Here's what to expect:
🕘 Arrival Time: Please arrive at 8:45 AM for introductions and a safety briefing.

🎤 Candidate Announcements: We'll introduce each official/candidate and the office they hold or are running for.

🤝 Community Connection: Get to know your candidates and fellow community members as we work together.

This is a family-friendly event, and we're excited to have many youth organizations volunteering. It's a great opportunity for them to engage with civic-minded leaders and learn about local government.

Why We're Posting Candidates: As part of our commitment to transparency and community engagement, we've been posting each candidate's campaign page and logo on our Facebook and Instagram. This helps you get to know who's running and their vision for our community. The Bear Creek Yacht Club is deeply disheartened by the persistent lack of attention and action from the city, county, and state authorities regarding the enforcement of water quality standards and the living conditions along the stream banks in our community. The neglect of these critical issues has created significant health and safety hazards for all residents, visitors, and threaten local infrastructure.

The degradation of our waterways and the unsafe conditions along the stream banks pose severe risks to the environment, public health, and infrastructure. It is imperative that immediate and effective measures are taken to address these concerns. We urge all responsible parties to prioritize the enforcement of regulations already in place and work collaboratively to ensure the protection and improvement of our community’s natural resources. Furthermore, it’s time for the local governments and agencies to actively relocate the unhoused encampments away from the waterway into more suitable housing locations where living conditions can be improved and the waterways can be protected from biological and chemical contaminations.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Sandra Hay and others like her, who diligently reports these issues to the authorities and has provided photographic evidence of the horrific conditions we face like the intentionaloil spilt into Bear Creek today . Her dedication to highlighting these problems is invaluable.

Our commitment to preserving the beauty and safety of Bear Creek remains unwavering, and we call upon everyone to join us in this vital effort. Together, we can safeguard the well-being of our community and the environment for generations to come.
