⚠️ EVENT POSTPONEMENT NOTICE ⚠️

The BCYC 2nd Annual Gator Hunt scheduled for June 6 has been postponed.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s event. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s understanding.

We are working to identify a new date and will share updates as they become available.

Thank you for your continued support of the Bear Creek Yacht Club. The mythical Bear Creek Gator remains at large, and we’ll be back on the scout soon. 🐊

COMING SOON… The BCYC Onion Bag Project. 👀

Be on the lookout for our reusable onion bag receptacles along Merced’s creeks and walking paths. Grab a bag, lend a hand, and help keep Merced and our waterways clean one piece of trash at a time.

One more use before the landfill. One less piece of trash in the creek. 🌊🧅

It’s time for the BCYC’s Annual Gator Hunt.

Join us June 6th at 9:00am as we paddle Bear Creek searching for the legendary Bear Creek Gator.

Will we find him? Doubtful. Will somebody claim they did? Absolutely.

Kayaks. Canoes. Life jackets required.Nobody wants to explain getting dragged into the creek by a mythical reptile.

Launch and pull out locations will follow. Transportation between locations will not be provided, so plan accordingly… unless you think the gator offers shuttle service.

What a great day at Rahilly Park this past weekend as we celebrated Earth Day
(a little early).

Thank you to everyone who came out and made Earth Day so special.

Huge thanks to our event partners. U.S. Fish and Wildlife, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Xerces Society, Rising Sun Center for Opportunity, Beam Circular, First 5 Merced County, UC Merced College Corps Fellows and the UC Merced Community Engagement Center.

Special appreciation to the City of Merced Parks & Community Services team, our BCYC swashbucklers and the EMRCD crew.

We couldn’t do this without you. 🌎

Join us at Rahilly Park as we celebrate Earth Day with a morning of community, connection and giving back to the places we all share. We’re doing this a little early this year because we’re so excited to celebrate.

The Bear Creek Yacht Club will be out there alongside great local partners helping make a small but meaningful impact. Whether that’s lending a hand, learning something new or just showing up. Bring a friend, bring your family or just bring yourself.

📍 Rahilly Park – Merced, CA

⏰ 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

We’ll also be giving away environmentally focused books and hosting stewardship activities for young kids (ages 0–5), thanks in part to our Mobile Stewardship Lab and Onion Bag Project, funded and supported by First 5 Merced County.

Let’s take care of our parks, our creeks, our community and our corner of the valley. 🌿

This past weekend was AWESOME! Over 25 Volunteers showed up and showed out!

2.5 Truckloads of trash removed.

We also had successful launches of two of our new programs the Onion Bag Project and the relaunch of our Outdoor Ed program thanks to a grant from .

We are beginning to phase out(when possible) the use of single use trash bags in favor of reusable onion or produce bags. So far we’d call a successful and saved over 22 plastics bags from the landfill so far.

More to come on our outdoor education program.
