Some of the most significant ministry moments are not planned. They happen when we slow down enough to notice someone else's pain. Jesus consistently allowed Himself to be interrupted by need. As His disciples, we are invited into that same posture — attentive, available, and willing to set aside our schedule for someone else's suffering.

The message of the Gospel is that suffering does not have the final word. Christ entered into our brokenness so that our brokenness could be healed. When we bring that message into the lives of those who are hurting, we are not offering false comfort — we are offering living hope. That is worth proclaiming.

Too often, discipleship is designed for the comfortable. But the New Testament shows us a different picture — one where believers carry each other's burdens, confess sins to one another, and pray for healing together (James 5:16). Real disciple-making does not sidestep pain. It walks into it with someone.

The deeper our roots go in Christ, the further our arms can reach toward those who are hurting. Renewal is not only personal — it is communal and missional. When the church is rooted in the Gospel, it becomes a refuge for the broken. That is the kind of church God is building.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 instructs us to encourage the faint-hearted and help the weak. Healthy churches cultivate a culture where no one is expected to suffer alone. Who are the faint-hearted in your congregation, and who is walking alongside them?

2 Corinthians 1:4 tells us God comforts us in our afflictions so that we can comfort others with the same comfort we have received. Pain is not wasted in the economy of God. Those who have walked through the valley often become the most faithful companions for someone else beginning that same journey.

When Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10), He showed us that mercy does not wait for a plan — it moves. Helping the hurting often begins with one person who chooses to cross the road rather than pass by. You do not need a platform. You need a willing heart and eyes that are open.

Life-on-life discipleship means walking through life together — the good seasons and the hard ones. People who are hurting do not need a program. They need a person. Someone who knows their name, knows their story, and will not disappear when the pain gets difficult. That kind of faithfulness changes lives.

Romans 12:15 gives us a simple but demanding command: weep with those who weep. Not fix. Not lecture. Weep. One of the most powerful things a disciple-maker can do is simply be present in someone's pain. The Gospel is not only a message to be proclaimed — it is a presence to be embodied. Are you willing to show up?
