🐱 June is National Adopt-a-Shelter Cat Month! 🐱

Every cat deserves a safe home, a warm lap, and a family to love. This month, we’re celebrating the incredible shelter cats waiting for their second chance and encouraging our community to consider adoption.

When you adopt, you’re not just saving one life—you make room for another animal in need. Whether you’re looking for a playful kitten, a laid-back companion, or a wise senior cat, your perfect feline friend may be waiting at a local shelter right now.

Let’s help more cats find the loving homes they deserve. ❤️🐾

🐦‍⬛🖤 Did you know crows are among the most intelligent animals on the planet? These clever birds can recognize faces, solve problems, and even form lasting family bonds.

Want to make your yard more crow-friendly? Offering fresh water, safe food, and a welcoming space can help these remarkable visitors feel at home. 🌿💧

Every animal—wild or domestic—deserves our kindness and respect. Compassion for animals starts right in our own backyard. 🐾✨

☀️🐾 Hot weather can turn dangerous for our furry friends faster than you think.

Dogs can suffer heat stroke when temperatures rise, especially brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds like Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boston Terriers.

🚨 Watch for these warning signs:
• Excessive panting
• Bright red or dark gums
• Rapid heartbeat
• Weakness, staggering, or collapse
• Dry or sticky gums and tongue
• Vomiting, diarrhea, or seizures

🔥 Remember:
• Hot asphalt can burn paws even when the air temperature seems comfortable.
• Never leave a pet in a parked car—even for a few minutes.
• Provide plenty of fresh water and shade during outdoor activities.

If you suspect heat stroke, move your pet to a cool area immediately and contact your veterinarian right away.

Let’s keep our four-legged family members safe, healthy, and happy all summer long. ❤️🐶

Thank you to our friends in education and advocacy at Clorofil for bringing this issue to everyone's attention. Let's make sure this bill does NOT become the law of the land.

Each of these three rectangles is the size of a gestation crate. Mother pigs spend most of their life in a space this small, unable to turn around.

Skye tried to put ourselves in their hooves.

The House already passed a Farm Bill provision that would override voter-approved bans on these crates in California and Massachusetts. The Senate hasn't acted yet. There is still time.

Call your senators at (202) 224-3121 or use the ASPCA's one-click action alert: secure.aspca.org/action/farm-bill

Sweet Shannon is 16! 🎉🐾

This beloved Golden Retriever recently celebrated her sixteenth birthday at Seminary Oaks Park in Menlo Park surrounded by friends, fans, and plenty of love. Many may recognize Shannon from Yappy Hours at the Sheraton Palo Alto or from her years visiting classrooms as a humane education assistant, helping teach children how to safely meet, respect, and care for dogs. ❤️

Now enjoying a well-earned retirement, Shannon continues to spread joy everywhere she goes. Wishing her many more happy, healthy adventures — and another birthday celebration next year! 🦴✨

Special thanks to Rhea Sampson for all her support with our humane education programs over the years. 💛

🦎 Bernie the chameleon was the star of the show at East Palo Alto Academy, climbing right to the top for the best view in the room! Students and staff also met Ginger the Bearded Dragon, Inky the Indigo Snake, Fruit Loops the King Snake, and Vince the tortoise thanks to reptile rescuer John Hale and Project HumaneKind’s Animals Everywhere program. 💚🐍🐢

Bees play a vital role in our ecosystems, food supply, and biodiversity — and they need our protection now more than ever. Plant pollinator-friendly flowers, avoid harmful pesticides, and support habitats that help bees thrive. Small actions can make a big difference. 🌼💛
