For those of you holding back on purchasing a home because you are waiting for lower interest rates... maybe you should consider that rates near 6% are pretty close to historical low rates since 1971. It's hard to keep that in perspective when just a couple of years age we had rates below 3%.

Just for some additional narrative of mortgage rates by decade

• 1970s: Rates started around 7.5% in 1971 and rose sharply, ending the decade with an average of 11.2% in 1979.
• 1980s: The decade began with very high rates, peaking at 18.63% in October 1981, and ended with rates in the 10-11% range.
• 1990s: Rates began the decade above 10% and generally declined, finishing at around 7%.
• 2000s: Rates continued their general downward trend, reaching a low of around 5% and peaking in the 8% range.
• 2010s: The decade saw historically low rates, with the annual average in 2016 hitting a record low of 3.65%.
• 2020s: Rates fell to an all-time low of 2.65% in early 2021. They then rose dramatically in 2022 and 2023, briefly exceeding 8% before fluctuating in the mid-to-high 6% and 7% range.
