Botanical Art by Colbymade aka The Plant Lab. My business has taken a long break because of an injury I had in December 2020. The impact of this injury has been a whirlwind of ups and downs. But I’m still here and I’m still designing. I love what I do and my next moves are in the works.

Do you apply logic when planting a garden box or do you just go with your gut feelings? We put a professional eye of design and longevity to everything we touch. There is always room for seasonal interest but if you don’t establish a foundational planting then you are always chasing the seasonal lust. I’m a firm believer in creating a base to work around. This is our foundation planting for this rooftop. Going forward, we plan to add some layers of color but for now this gives a clear direction.

I love this building. When I was growing up in Memphis this was one of the hot spots for photography and general appreciation of the age of Memphis. The fact that it’s a beer production building is just an added bonus. I can’t image what kind of atmosphere that existed during the 1890’s beer brewing industry but it could make for a cool film! I envision Memphis clarifying it’s identity with such buildings. I hope going forward there is a clear intention about historical buildings and their role in shaping our south.

I love a challenge. Orchids have always seemed like a good challenge for me. So I bought some and wrapped them in sheet moss, hung them from my shower rod, put them in golden sphagnum moss, you know did all the things that I do. Experiment on Orchids. I have found that they are very adaptive and thirst hardy. I let them dry out and remain like that for a little bit then I slowly reintroduce hydration. It’s not really a science bc I just try to neglect them but really I can’t. Now, I have a mature moth orchid that has made a baby! I love this baby so much that I have to be careful not to overdo it...and kill it. It’s very slow to grow roots which I read needs to happen before I take it off mommy orchid. So I wait. Patience right #💚

This fiddle leaf has been through tough times but we plan to make the feeding schedule perfect and her top treatment amazing. I think some of my specialty rocks are going to be đź’Ą.
