Yesterday we had a Navajo guide give us a private tour into Canyon de Chelly. (Pro. Shay). The walls of the canyon grow taller as we descend into the canyon until they are 1000 ft tall. Some of the Navajo spend their summer months living in the canyon where they farm a little and the winter in a second home above the rim of the canyon. Several cliff dwellings are in Canyon de Chelly from 800-1000yrs old. The occupants left pictographs on the canyon walls. Archaeologists know that these were drawn after the Spaniards arrived because the men are on horseback. The men with broad torsos are believed to represent the Spanish wearing armor. Note the car partially submerged in a quicksand.

My last painting on 24” x 24” canvas. I photographed this cellist at a Trampled by Turtles concert last summer. I always liked that photo. I think I’ll keep this one. It’s called simply “The Cellist”

This painting was commissioned by the Ocean Cruising Club as a gift to honor a particular member. Was shipped off to Maine. I forgot to take a photo after I had it framed. The cliffs of Norway are in the distance. Thus the Norwegian courtesy flag on the mast.
