Happy HAPPY birthday to Demetrious Reed! This Philadelphia native just completed his third season with Ballet Memphis. We are happy to say he will be around this summer working with our Beyond Technique Summer Intensive.

He is a born performer and says if he were not a dancer, he would still be doing something in entertainment. He says that a place in Memphis that feels like home to him is his apartment with his pet rabbit. We also have another rabbit parent in the company (Anwen Brown)!

When asked three words that describe him, he responded aware, empathetic, caring, and anyone who knows him would surely agree with that.

Happy HAPPY birthday to Iori Araya! Iori is completing her SIXTEENTH season(!) of professional dancing, and has been at Ballet Memphis since 2017 when she had her debut with George Balanchine’s Square Dance.

She says she embraces her performance anxiety before she goes on stage because the nerves actually help her perform well.

She describes herself as adaptable, emotional, and lucky, and wants you to know “Thank you always for the warmest support! I’ve been loving getting to know some of the audience members in person and dancing for you all throughout the years!”

INTERIORWORKS is back! This dancer-produced show is an audience favorite and will take place over May 8 & 9 in the Fly Studio!

The programs include pieces choreographed by Ballet Memphis artists Iori Araya, Kennedy Ballard, Angelina Broad, Anwen Brown, Matthew Cunningham, Cecily Khuner, Phoebe Magna, Darcy McLoughlin, Wyatt Pendleton, Emilia Sandoval, and Sean Sessions plus guest appearances by Dance for Parkinson’s and Adult Ballet.

All proceeds benefit the Artists’ Resource Fund, which helps dancers with financial needs from anything like recovering from an injury to career changes.
