Immigration arrests surge under Trump’s Memphis Safe Task Force
ICE “street arrests” increased sixfold in Shelby County during the task force’s first three months of operations.

His empty room tells the story. High school soccer player Yasser Lopez, 18, was arrested by immigration agents following a traffic stop last month.
His friends miss him. His mom’s heart aches.
The incident also raises fresh concerns about the reach and scope of President Trump’s controversial immigration crackdown and reopens questions about MPD’s involvement with ICE.
Mayor Young’s office said although MPD initiated the stop, it did not call ICE, which arrived after monitoring MPD radio transmissions.
