Just over a year ago, my friend Shoshana messaged me to ask if I could help hook her up with some co-writes in Nashville. I love the Nashville songwriting community and I’ve made some beautiful creative partnerships with writers and artists there.
While I was considering who I would call to connect her with, I had this nagging voice that I couldn’t quiet that kept saying “YOU could help her make a great record, David….or at least the kind of record you would love to hear from her”, so I said it out loud, she took me up on it and we’ve been slowly working on the album ever since.
She and I have become like siblings. I am in awe of the gift of her voice just like the rest of the world is about to be, but I’m more in awe and humbled by her huge heart, indomitable spirit, creative courageousness and how she shows up and just fu***ng brings it.
We are still writing and working on the full album, but a few weeks ago we decided we would throw down the gauntlet and record one of the songs we’d written with Chuck Harmony and Claude Kelley. “Hard Woman To Love” was all tracked in one day at the legendary Royal Studios in Memphis where Al Green recorded. It’s just a hint of what is to come.
I’m excited for the world to hear this album. I’m excited for people to FEEL this album. More than anything, I’m so proud of my little sister and grateful that she let me ride with her.
“Hard Woman To Love”, written by Shoshana Bean, Claude Kelly, Chuck Harmony and me, lovingly produced by me and recorded by Boo Mitchell is available and streaming everywhere now.
Enjoy.
Get ready.
She coming.

My first email address was [email protected] because I lived for Sly. “Hot Fun In The Summertime” will forever be in my top 5 of all time. I remember not speaking to my girlfriend or anyone else when I stumbled across There’s A Riot Goin On on vinyl at . You see, was my guy. It seemed like he came from another planet and it never occurred to me that he might have been influenced so heavily by anyone. I couldn’t fully draw a line backward from Prince to anything……until I heard that record. I remember thinking “OH SH*T….THESE ARE THE INGREDIENTS. THESE ARE THE SEEDS”. Joyful, dark, bold, funny, charismatic, funky, pop, bluesy, dirty fearless music. I had a tascam 4 track recorder and I immediately started making weird versions of Sly songs. I learned half of what I know about creative fearlessness and genre bending from Sylvester Stewart. I couldn’t possibly overstate my debt of gratitude to this man, he who put a band together that was multicultural and inclusive and funky as hell. If you haven’t before, please please listen to There’s A Riot Goin On today. It sounds like right now feels. Rest in power, Syl. Thank you.

This one turns 33 today. 33 is the good one. To say I’m immensely proud of the man you’ve become would be a tremendous understatement. You are kind, thoughtful, quick witted, funny, easy to talk to, smart, eager to learn and an involved and present father and brother. I like hanging out with you so much that sometimes I forget that I actually made you. You’re one of one and I love you to the moon and back. I can’t take all the credit for your greatness though. Although we didn’t always see eye to eye (or even face to face), I tip my hat to your mom for helping mold you into who you are. There is a pile of things we got wrong, but you’re definitely one thing we got right. Happy Birthday, kid. Harris Boys Are Winners indeed.
