The Immigrant Justice Program (IJP) serves persons in Memphis Immigration Court’s geographic jurisdiction whose income falls below a living wage. The immigrants of Memphis and Shelby Co. are most in need of legal assistance with their status, including vulnerable unaccompanied minors, victims of

April was a busy and meaningful month for Community Legal Center.
We were honored to be the beneficiary of an incredible concert at Growlers featuring Blvck Hippie, Jombi, and Zoë Dominguez. We are so grateful to everyone who came out to support our work and mission. We also received a grant award from St. Mary’s that will help us continue expanding access to justice for all.
Out in the community, our team hosted an Estate Planning Clinic at the Officer Geoffrey Redd Library, joined fellow organizations at the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis Grantee Showcase, and continued supporting local tenants through our Renter’s Rights Clinic.
Thank you to every supporter, partner, volunteer, donor, and client who made April such a meaningful month for CLC. We’re proud of the work happening across Memphis every day.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Estate Planning Clinic at the Officer Geoffrey Redd Library on April 22! 💙
Through these free clinics, the Community Legal Center helps individuals and families take important steps to protect their futures by creating essential estate planning documents like wills, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
We know it’s not always possible to attend a clinic, which is why our Elder Law team also offers estate planning appointments at our office. If you’re interested in getting started on your estate plan, we’re here to help.
Planning ahead is one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones.

This March, we connected with students at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law during an Alternative Spring Break panel featuring our IJP Director, Colton Bane, sharing insights on public interest law and community advocacy.
We continued serving clients at Cornelia Crenshaw Library and hosted 2 additional estate planning clinics, helping individuals and families plan for the future. We also held a Renters’ Rights Clinic to support tenants navigating housing challenges.
Our team attended the Slingshot Impact Awards and celebrated Women’s History Month, recognizing the impact of women in our field and community. Special thanks to our Pro Se Director, Christina, for volunteering at the Midtown Legal Clinic hosted by Idlewild Presbyterian Church.

Join us in welcoming Renee Graves to CLC as Staff Attorney in our Immigration Justice program.
Renee brings a strong background in legal aid and a deep commitment to standing alongside people navigating some of life’s most difficult moments. Renee earned her law degree from the University of Memphis and shares our belief that access to justice should never depend on someone’s income, language, or circumstances.
We are proud to have Renee on the CLC team.

Spring is about fresh starts. For many of our clients, legal help is the first step toward one.
Katherine arrived in the United States as an unaccompanied minor, fleeing neglect and seeking safety. CLC helped her secure lawful permanent residency so she could begin again. Years later, when questions about her childhood journey threatened to block her from taking a professional licensing exam, we stepped in once more to explain her circumstances.
Katherine was allowed to sit for the test, opening the door to the career she has built for herself. Her story reminds us that with the right support, new beginnings can flourish.
