Joe Ligon was just 15 years old when he was sentenced to life in prison in Pennsylvania in 1953 for crimes committed during a violent robbery and st*bbing spree that left two people d**d.⁠

Following his arrest, Ligon was held without access to his family or legal representation, and he signed confessions put in front of him by the police.

He and four other teenagers were rushed through a joint, one-day trial.

For decades, he lived quietly behind bars, working prison jobs, avoiding trouble, and spending much of his time alone.

As the years passed, the world outside transformed while Ligon remained incarcerated, eventually becoming America's longest-serving juvenile lifer.⁠

After a series of U.S. Supreme Court rulings declared mandatory life-without-parole sentences for juveniles unconstitutional, Ligon became eligible for release.

Yet he repeatedly refused parole because it would have placed him under state supervision for the rest of his life.⁠

Following a lengthy legal battle, a federal judge vacated his sentence, and on February 11, 2021, Joe Ligon finally walked free at the age of 83 after nearly 68 years in prison.⁠

Asked what freedom felt like after all those years, his answer was simple: "Beautiful."

According to Port Arthur police, a man identified as Marcus Hubbard entered a residential property without permission after noticing a lawnmower on the premises. Security camera footage showed him bringing a gas can, fueling the mower, and then using it to cut the grass in both the front and back yards.

The man continued mowing for a period of time, with the footage showing him completing a significant portion of the yard work. The homeowner was not present during the incident, and the entire event was captured on the property's surveillance cameras.

Police said officers were dispatched to the residence after receiving a report of the trespassing. When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly attempted to leave while pulling the lawnmower with him.

Authorities reported that he later abandoned the mower in a nearby alley and fled the area on foot. After reviewing the surveillance footage and gathering evidence, investigators identified the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant in connection with the incident.🫠
