https://www.teknovation.biz/why-ai-startups-are-choosing-tennessee/ The AI Tennessee Summit recently brought together founders to discuss a pivotal question: Why are startups choosing Tennessee?
Moderated by Lindsey Cox (LaunchTN), the panel featured John E. Derrick (Authentrics.ai), Wesley Montague (Ship It Pro), and Jian Huang (VisualizAI).
The consensus? Statewide collaboration, low costs, and a strong talent pool make our state a no-brainer, but there remains a critical need to educate local, high-net-worth individuals on the value of investing in early-stage .

Honored to be a panelist at the AI Tennessee Summit in Nashville on January 28–29, 2026.
I’ll be joining the Day Two panel, “Breaking the First Learn Then Apply: AI Start-Up Ecosystem in Tennessee,” alongside founders, builders, and ecosystem leaders who are actively turning AI research into real-world applications.
At Ship It Pro, we’re building applied AI for freight quality, damage prevention, and claims clarity. This conversation around moving from theory to ex*****on hits close to home.
Grateful to be included and looking forward to a strong discussion on what it takes to build, test, and scale AI companies here in Tennessee.
If you’re attending, hope to see you there.

Ship It Pro
Wesley Montague, the head of the startup Ship It Pro, previously spent 20 years climbing in and out of rail cars, containers and tractor trailers for some of the biggest names in manufacturing and transportation, trying to implement blocking and bracing methods that would prevent goods from getting damaged during transit.
That involved using giant air bags to fill voids in the cargo space or installing rubber friction mats.
Montague would train workers at facilities on proper packing techniques, and he would then fly all the way to a container's destination with a camera, clipboard and tape measure to assess how much objects had shifted.
Damage would dip to almost zero over the approximately six-month period that Montague worked with those facilities, he said, but when he returned half a year later, high employee turnover meant there were new faces at the dock level. There wasn't a standard procedure in place to ensure success in the long term.
Montague is now developing a system that applies his expertise at a broad level. People would be able to inspect trailers and containers with a mobile device or tablet and use a 3D load plan that identifies the best way to pack products. If there's any damage when the container reaches its destination, Montague aims to pinpoint how exactly the products were harmed.
"If we can find out what the actual problem is at the end of the day, we can mitigate that next load going out," Montague said in an interview.
