We're going to another festival! "That Joke Is Mine!" has been officially selected for the DeSoto Film Festival! This is the first official selection for this short, and we couldn't have gotten it here without the help of our talented cast, amazing crew, and wonderful extras. Thank you!

We hope this leads to new opportunities and collaboration for everyone. Joining the Studio Suggs Open Audition Filmmaker Panel is Jessica Chaney!
Jessica Chaney is a filmmaker and storyteller dedicated to amplifying the voices and experiences of women of color through film. An Alabama native with over a decade of experience in media production, she has worked across news, advertising, and community platforms to craft meaningful narratives. In 2017, she co-founded Not Your Ordinary Films, producing acclaimed short films, web series, and the feature-length documentary "I AM: Breaking the Silence on Mental Health," which has screened at festivals nationwide.
And that's all the incredible filmmakers coming to our panel this Saturday! Can't wait for them to see all the local talent who signed up for our open auditions!

Joining the Studio Suggs Open Audition Filmmaker Panel are Amir Abdur-Rasheed, Carli Allen, and Michael Daniels!
- Amir Abdur-Rasheed made his grand debut as a film director this past summer with the comedy short "Schoolwide Rumble." He has been acting and working on films since he was 8 years old, worked as an assistant director on 3 indie Memphis Youth films, and directed and moderated dozens of broadcast programs. Amir has some projects he's looking forward to making soon, and he's excited to meet some new talent.
- Carli Allen is an emerging filmmaker and film major whose work explores the intersection of storytelling and visual innovation. A two-time Indie Memphis Youth Film Festival winner for her film P.S. I Club You, which she wrote and directed, Carli currently works in the film industry while pursuing a career in entertainment law and plans to launch her own production company.
- Michael Daniels — Director of the shorts "Vindictive" (2019) and "Gold & Gunpowder" (2023) and the upcoming feature "THORN" (2026). Michael's films explore dramatic characters and themes while overcoming fantastical odds. He loves to blend genres ranging from western to supernatural to science fiction and more. All his projects have been made locally with the intention of developing himself and his crew's talents. Michael aims for sets where we combine artistic creativity with professional standards.

Joining the Studio Suggs Open Audition Filmmaker Panel are Apphia Salter, Ronnie Franklin Jr., and Jessica Hurth!
- Apphia Salter is a filmmaker and visual storyteller whose creative journey began with photography in middle school. She began taking her craft seriously in high school and is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree, majoring in Communication with a concentration in Film and Video and minoring in Graphic Design. Throughout her studies, she’s worked on a range of short films across various courses. Most recently, she completed her own non-dialogue short film, set to premiere this Friday.
- Ronnie Franklin Jr. is a Memphis indie filmmaker with a passion for crafting stories that blend authenticity, emotion, and storytelling. A proud alum of the University of Memphis film program, he brings a direct approach to every project— from concept to final cut. His work reflects a deep appreciation for character-driven narratives and meaningful representation on screen and through audio. Ronnie continues to build his creative voice through film, audio, and storytelling, including his upcoming series ‘The Knight Shadows’ and an untitled web series that he is currently writing and directing.
- Jessica Hurth is a director and founder of the production company SleepyEaters. She created 'Indie Spotlight: Film & Conversation' to showcase and support independent filmmakers. Her short films, including "Hidden Thoughts," explore intimate human experiences and reflect her passion for authentic storytelling and community through film.
