In my years of coaching, I've seen how the endless barrage from technology and toxic foods can overwhelm the mind and sap the body’s natural vitality. Too much Tik Tok. Too many filters with dog ears. Too many cheapo Netflix movies with subpar plots and terrible dialogue.
I’ve also witnessed the power we each have to take back control.
The stoic philosophers knew mental mastery and physical training go hand in hand. As Epictetus said, "no man is free who is not master of himself ".
Consider finding brief moments to reconnect mind and body daily. Meditation works.
At least it did for Tom Cruise in the " Last Samuri".
Our ancestors knew flowing movement calms the anxious mind. Exertion charges focus and awareness. Start small, but make it regular.

Try this quick but effective sequence:
10 kettlebell swings on the minute, for 10 minutes. Then 5 minutes alternating Get-Ups on each side. Include a brief warm-up and cooldown.
25 minutes to nourish body and mind. Done consistently, you’ll compound gains. As our ancestors knew, small actions cultivate true vigor.

How Bruce Lee Achieved a Lean, Hard and Dangerous Physique with an Unstop-able Skillset and Unbeatable Mindset, Doing What He Loved and How You Can Too
Bruce Lee is known for his rigorous martial arts training, disciplined lifestyle and giving a Pro basketball hall of Famer a beat down in Enter the Dragon.
Innovative and unparalleled, but not without controversy, his system ( or non- system) of Jeet Kune Do championed truth, simplicity and ultimate self expression.
You probably already know this but, training to be Bruce Lee is the complete opposite of everything he teaches. Yet, just imagine for second, training in a similar way. A way allowing you to full express your own personal power and “ thusness” or “ personal essence” Lee speaks so much about in his book The Tao of Jeet Kun Do. Honoring the Bruce Lee Tradition in the way you train. Experiencing no-mind and the center with no circumference. Experiencing Ultimate Freedom.
Lee taught his unique way of training, living and thinking through martial arts but there is no reason why applying this mentality to Strength training should be any different. Approaching strength training with a practice mentality, not just a “ lets get this over with who cares if it looks sloppy” is a great place to start.
To get you started, here is sample strength training program from “ The Tao of Jeet Kune Do”
For those familiar with the system we run at Pantheon you’ll instantly notice multiple similarities between Bruce’s weight training program and our “ Easy Strength“ protocol. This being:
-a focus on training movements in various planes. Both programs focus on compound lifts that give you the most bang for your buck.
- Training with low rep ranges aiming at maximizing neurological gains. Training the same lifts groove efficient neuromuscular patterns. This increase strength without sacrificing mobility and flexibility
- Viewing strength as a skill and practice. Improving the lifts over time, not just rushing through to get it over with. This develops a mindset of mastery and patience
- Prioritizing consistency with quality over quantity. Trusting the process and resisting tendency to rush. Lasting strength is built at a slow pace
- Small daily doses add up. Both programs advocate for frequent training. Volume is spread out over the course of a month or training cycle. This reduces muscle soreness and doesn’t interfere with ones boxing, marital arts, or athletic practice
- I say boxing or martial arts practice, but this also includes ones golf game or Thursday night Rec league hockey. Nobody wants to be sore for that
- Neither method advocates training to failure. This preserves energy and prevents injury. Keeps the joints healthy and allows for higher frequency of training
- Full body training protocols. Improving posture and preventing imbalances while developing perfect form and the mind muscle connection. This also reduces injury and leads to greater strength gains
- A distinct focus on practice, consistency and mastery. Purpose is built in and confidence grows with every completed training session
This style of lifting ensures an individual will build a great amount of strength while focusing on excellence in their chosen sport or activity.

A Simple Way to Improve Longevity
Studies show, a muscle’s ability to produce force is a driving factor in longevity and healthy aging. Couple this with research implying the more mitochondria present in an organism the higher the life expectancy.
We can easily program our workouts around these two concepts by ensuring
- lifts occur in 70-85% of our 1RM
- involve all planes of movement
- improve our muscular power output by training with ballistic exercises ( think Kettlebell swings/ Medball throws )
To implement this
- pick a movement from each category
-horizontal push and pull
-vertical push and pull
- squat
- hinge
Pick a carry ( farmers walk ) as Dr. Peter Atia states “no other animal is capable of carrying large objects with any efficiency”
Pick a ballistic exercise to be done on the minute for at least 8 minutes
A sample day could look like this:
1 arm overhead press 3x5
Pull up 3x3
Split squat 3x5
Trap bar Deadlift 3x3
Farmers carry 10yds x 5
Finish with OTM kettlebell swings/ medball slams x 8 minutes

These dudes are fast. They come to work. And after playing an intense game of goal-line yesterday (it got a little chippy at the end, not a bad thing) it’s evident they move, cut and stop on a dime as well. I’m looking forward to watching them juke, shake and blow by their opponents this season.
