Being Florida Tech students, we are designing an inflatable heat shield specifically for CubeSat EDL operations at both Earth & Mars.

Our computer aided analysis shows us how the heat will be distributed through the upper two layers of the heat shield during our reentry process. That's 5.7 millimeters of material reducing the temperature well over 1500 degrees Celsius!

We are happy to announce we have begun testing our thermal protection materials! Check out this video of our first test we conducted today!

We are excited to announce CIHS, or CubeSat Inflatable Heat Shield. Composed of Florida Tech students, this project aims to develop technologies that will give CubeSats the capability of performing Entry Descent & Landing Operations at both Earth and Mars! We plan to post updates, pictures and videos of our progress during the development of this technology, and we hope you follow along with us on this exciting journey!
