💡 SMALL HOME TRUTH: Cost Per Square Foot Isn’t the Full Story
We’re often asked, “Why does a small home cost more per square foot than a traditional home?”
The truth is—it’s not an apples-to-apples comparison. Here’s why:
🔸 Custom-Built, One at a Time
At Movable Roots, each home is built to order. Nothing is mass-produced or bought in bulk (unless part of a multi-home project). Every build is handcrafted with care and attention to detail.
🔸 Specialized Materials and Appliances
Small doesn’t mean cheaper. Compact, space-saving appliances and multi-use components often cost more than the standard builder-grade fixtures used in traditional homes.
🔸 Smaller Footprint = Concentrated Costs
Traditional foundation homes benefit from economies of scale. Their larger footprint allows costs to be spread out over thousands of square feet.
In a small home, every dollar of high-quality material and labor is concentrated into a footprint of 1000 square feet or less.
✅ So while the cost per square foot may be higher, the total cost is often much lower—and you’re getting a fully customized, high-efficiency home.

Some projects become more than just a build. They become part of a relationship. 💍
When clients trust us not once, but twice, it means more than we can put into words.
The Jeweled Barn 2.0 was built for Karina Brez, and being chosen again to bring another vision to life is something we are incredibly grateful for.
At Movable Roots, we know these projects are personal. They represent dreams, businesses, milestones, and years of hard work. Our clients are trusting us with something deeply important to them, and we never take that lightly.
Over time, many of our clients become more than customers. They become part of the Movable Roots family.
To every repeat client who continues to support and believe in us — thank you. Your trust means everything.

The housing boom created a race to build faster and maximize volume.
At Movable Roots, we believe building a home should never feel like an assembly line.
We intentionally stay hands-on with our projects because quality matters. Communication matters. Craftsmanship matters.
Our modular homes are built with quality materials, engineered to Florida code and wind ratings, and built by skilled craftsmen who take pride in their work.
We may be a smaller builder, but that allows us to focus on something bigger:
Building homes the right way.

Modular homes are not mobile homes—and understanding the difference matters, especially in Florida.
Modular homes are built to the Florida Building Code, meaning they’re held to the same structural standards as a traditional site-built home. Once placed, they become a permanent home on a foundation.
Mobile homes (manufactured homes) are built to the HUD code, which follows a different set of standards and is not specific to Florida’s building requirements.
In a state known for hurricanes and high winds, building to Florida code and wind ratings isn’t just a detail—it’s a critical part of how a home performs over time.
👉 When comparing your options, make sure you’re looking at more than just appearance—how it’s built matters.
