According to Florida Fish + Wildlife a jaw-dropping 96% of manatees have scars from being hit by a boat 🤯 These gentle giants are so curious it can be tempting to try to touch them or get too close but— When manatees become use to people for things like pets + water it causes them to lose their natural fear of boats+ humans which increases their chance of being hit 🥹 So what do you do in this situation? Enjoy the moment with your paddle out of the water until you have an opportunity to gently surface paddle away from the manatee until they lose interest.
