CORONATION CHICKEN DAY IS TOMORROW! In 1953, as the world prepared for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth, chefs were busy preparing recipes for a chicken dish fit for royalty. Seventy years later, poet Maria Masington was herself crowned with regional and national laurels for her first book Mouth Like a Sailor. Her true regrets (in verse form) take on deeper meaning in this, her second book of poetry.

THE ORBIT OF VENUS DE MILO’S MARRIAGE BY MARIA MASINGTON - The RavensPerch 09/09/2023

…and again!

THE ORBIT OF VENUS DE MILO’S MARRIAGE BY MARIA MASINGTON - The RavensPerch She trusts no one, not even this man who went around and around proving himself again and again. She is cautious, no arms to break her fall. Worry takes her millions of miles away. Terrified that her wedding band, like Saturn’s gold ring, is not what it seems, just a tangle of rock, dust, and […...

Maria Masington strikes again—and strikes hard!

TAKING ON WATER BY MARIA MASINGTON - The RavensPerch I am not Monet’s lily. Not floating among shiny lily pads or flowering pastels. I am the rusty underside. Claude Monet, I dare you. Dive in, submerge yourself, see a mother who has not bloomed, glistened, slept for ten months. Color me in murk, paint me black. I am not Ophelia. Not young or noble ...

RISE OF THE COVFEFE by JAMES FEICHTHALER

More than three years ago, a rogue Tweet from the White House launched the word “covfefe” into the world. It enjoyed brief notoriety in the Twitterverse in 2017, before being buried under the sheer weight of other rogue Tweets.

But it is not destined to fade away. Not while James Feichthaler walks the earth. James is a street poet and the pied piper of the Dead Bard’s Society in Manayunk who took covfefe and made it his own, rendering it all in capital letters in the process.

When COVFEFE lodged in James’s fertile mind, it grew and took on epic proportions, spawning a series of powerful lyrical poems that he has been delivering in live performances for years. Now, this cycle of poems has come together in a single book-length work, The Rise of the COVFEFE (2020, Parnilis Media), available in paperback and Kindle formats. And it couldn’t be more timely.

The Rise of the COVFEFE holds a satirical mirror up to these times, right down to the tiniest freckle on society's backside. It's not for the faint of heart. But neither are these times, and James Feichthaler has a way of striking at the heart of things with language that is brutally honest, sometimes infused with wry humor, sometimes with laugh-out-loud humor, and always delivered with zero damns given. It may or may not change the mind or heart of its audience, but it will take them on a hell of a ride.

Chronicle of a Presidency 10/27/2020

Here's a turn up for the books: The Miami Herald correspondent Olga Connor gave a shout-out to Parnilis Media author Agnes Moncy and her latest work, Chronicle of a Presidency.

In a Spanish-language opinion piece titled "El burlador de la Casa Blanca sale burlado" (The White House mocker gets mocked), Connor says that Agnes Moncy "makes us recognize the buffoonery situation in the presidential palace and other domains in which she intervenes...It is an incisive, penetrating, and at the same time sardonic way of capturing the "mocker" of the White House."

That sounds like high praise to us.
