We’ve been working on something a little bigger than a blog post. 💚

After more than a decade of walking through homes across Delaware County and the Main Line, we realized we answer many of the same homeowner questions every day.

How do I know when it’s actually time to paint? What should I budget? Where do I start? How do I choose a painter I can trust? What should I expect while the work is happening?

So we decided to put those conversations into one place.

The Delaware County Homeowner’s Guide to Painting a House is a resource we created to help homeowners make better, more confident decisions about their homes, whether you’re considering one room, an exterior, kitchen cabinets, or a much larger project.

This isn’t meant to be a sales pitch for Artisan. Even if you never hire us, we hope it helps you understand the process, know what questions to ask, and feel more prepared when it’s time to work on your home.

Throwback Thursday 💚

As we get closer to another Artisan anniversary, we’ve been looking back at some photos from the early years. It’s pretty wild to see where we started and how much has changed along the way.

The old truck. Jon and Mike out in the field doing whatever needed to be done. A much smaller operation with some pretty big ideas about what we wanted Artisan to become.

Over the years, the trucks have changed, our team has grown, our services and capabilities have expanded, and we finally have a home of our own in Media. There have been a lot of lessons, a lot of long days, and a whole lot of people who have helped us grow along the way.

One thing that hasn’t changed is that logo on our shirts. The same logo we wore back then is the one our team wears today. And behind it is still the same idea: do good work, treat people right, take care of their homes, and build relationships that last.

As we get closer to celebrating another year of Artisan, it’s pretty cool to look back at where it all started. We’re grateful for everyone who has been part of the ride, and even more excited about where we’re going.

Custom Wainscoting + Wallpaper in Media, PA 💚

Small rooms can make a big statement.

For this powder room in Media, PA, our team installed custom wainscoting to add architectural detail and character, then finished the transformation with wallpaper above it. Two different specialties, one team handling the project from start to finish.

Projects like this are a great example of why we’ve continued expanding what we can do for our clients. Whether it’s wallpaper installation, custom trim and carpentry, drywall repairs, painting, or those smaller Home Care & Repair projects around the house, our goal is to make things easier by giving homeowners one trusted team to call.

And sometimes, one of the smallest rooms in the house ends up being one of our favorites.

A beautiful cabinet finish matters. So does what happens in your home while we’re getting there.

This homeowner’s review hit on something we take a lot of pride in. During a kitchen cabinet painting project, your kitchen doesn’t stop being part of your everyday life. Our team works hard to keep the space clean, organized and as usable as possible throughout the process.

From the first conversation to the final detail, the goal isn’t just beautifully painted cabinets. It’s making the entire experience feel professional, respectful and as easy on your household as we can.

We’re incredibly grateful for reviews like this and for homeowners who trust our team inside their homes.

Why would exterior paint start failing only two years after it was painted?

That’s what we were dealing with on this project.

When our team got into the prep, we found a lot of peeling and failing paint. In several areas, the previous coating had been painted over without the proper sanding and preparation underneath, and the paint was coming right off.

We also found rotted wood, deteriorated caulking, and four corbels on the porch that needed some serious attention.

So before we worried about making anything look pretty, we worked on getting everything nice and tight.

The loose and failing paint was removed, the surfaces were thoroughly sanded, necessary areas were recaulked to help keep water out, and the four damaged corbels were rebuilt using Flex-Tec epoxy.

The French doors needed the same kind of attention.

Once the prep and repairs were complete, we applied two coats of finish paint, and you can see the difference.

There’s a reason we talk so much about preparation.

Exterior painting isn’t just about what a house looks like when the job is finished. The work underneath the paint plays a huge role in how that finish performs over time.

If you’re noticing peeling paint, cracking, rotted wood, or areas of your exterior that just don’t look right, those are things worth addressing before they become bigger problems.

We had a great visit at the Artisan shop with our friend Pat from . Pat stopped by to check out our new location, learn a little more about how we operate, and spend some time talking shop. If you know Pat, you know he’s a connector. He’s always looking for ways to help the people around him, make introductions, and support other local businesses.

Our connection to Boyle Energy actually goes back long before we knew Pat. Jon lived in Drexel Hill for 14 years and bought a home with oil heat. As a young homeowner with a young family, he didn’t know much about oil heat, what it would cost, or what happens when you suddenly realize you’re about to run out. There were also times when money was tight.

Through all of it, Boyle Energy never left Jon and his family in the cold. Literally. Their technicians and office staff were always kind, understanding, and empathetic. That kind of customer service sticks with you.

Now that we know Pat, that experience makes even more sense. Boyle Energy’s legacy goes all the way back to 1937, when Joseph Boyle Sr. started the company with his brother John, one truck, a toolbox, and a vision of taking care of customers personally.

Three generations later, you can see that legacy in the way Pat treats his employees, customers, friends, and people throughout the community. Jon experienced that culture as a customer years before we ever knew Pat, and today we get to see where it comes from.

Pat, thanks for stopping by the Artisan shop. If you have questions about oil heat, heating and cooling, propane, or HVAC, reach out to our friend Pat and the team at Boyle Energy.

Good people taking care of people for generations. That’s a legacy we have a lot of respect for.

Epoxy flooring in Bryn Mawr, PA can completely change the way a garage feels.

This garage went from a basic concrete floor to a clean, finished space that feels like part of the home.

That’s one of the things we love about epoxy floor coatings. They don’t just improve the appearance of a garage. You get a durable, easy-to-clean surface built to handle everyday life.

And yes, we do more than paint walls.

Garage floors, basements and other concrete spaces are another way the Artisan team can help homeowners take care of and improve their homes.

Another great transformation in Bryn Mawr.

You don’t always need to replace your cabinets. And you don’t always need to paint them.

Sometimes the right answer is simply knowing how to restore what you already have.

These stained kitchen cabinets had areas where years of use, especially around frequently touched doors and drawers, had worn through the existing finish and exposed the wood underneath.

Instead of refinishing the entire kitchen, we focused on the areas that actually needed attention.

Craig walks through the process in this video from start to finish: stripping the damaged sections, sanding through multiple grits, conditioning the wood, carefully matching the existing stain, rebuilding the protective clear coat, installing new hardware, cleaning the cabinetry, and touching up other areas throughout the kitchen.

The goal wasn't to make these cabinets look brand new.

The goal was to make the repairs disappear into what was already there.

That's something we think homeowners should know is possible. Painting or replacing an entire kitchen can be a great option, but it isn't automatically the best option for every kitchen.

Sometimes good craftsmanship means changing everything.

Sometimes it means knowing what not to change.

If you have cabinets you still love but they're starting to show their age, there may be more options than you think.
