Spent a morning last week at the Watkins Senior Center in Upper Darby. It was really nice to chat with everyone. It was great to see people enjoying each other’s company and having some fun. Tons of activities- cards, games, gardening, crafts, chair yoga, billards -and then a break for a hot lunch. Thanks to Cathy for the invitation, tour and to all for a warm welcome. This is quite a success story. Behind the scenes I and my office quietly helped make sure this transaction could go forward while making sure the investment in the project made by the County was protected. Government at all levels working with community partners to get a great project done.

The 1st Delco 10 Miler and what a success!! Ingredients - a sunny day (maybe a little hot); 1200 runners; hundreds of volunteers; collaborating local police and County park police working together ; and family and friends gathered at the fabulous Chester City Union soccer complex! Thanks to Councilwoman Christine Reuther for a vision of a race like this Thanks to Vice Chair of Council Richard Womack for his remarks and handing out medals with me and others. Thanks to Visit Delco for putting it all together. i especially enjoyed watching the runners cross the line and getting cheers from friends and family.

I was honored to join the flag raising to celebrate the Air Force’s birthday. I appreciated the chance to speak to the daughters of Tuskegee airman William “Woody “ Rice and told them how my sister and I drove to Tuskegee Alabama to learn more about the airmen and their incredible contributions. Their stories can never be lost. Thanks to all who participated today.

Was honored to join our local elected leaders to participate in a vigil on Thursday night to mark Overdose Awareness Day which is officially August 31st. We were joined by several providers of support and recovery services who are supported by the County, many through contracts funded by the County and state and administered through our Human Services Department. Thanks to those working everyday to help our residents and their families. The clear message- this disease has touched all of us- our families, friends and neighbors- and we heard loud and clear- recovery is possible.

I am so grateful for my office full of dedicated County employees and all-around great Delco residents. Here we are on Friday afternoon (with another payday in the books!) gathering up the school supplies we are donating to the Health Department’s Back to School event. Have a great weekend and end of summer. Thanks to all!
