Pete's disassembling action parts faster than I can reassemble. I've got a lot of parts to go.

Pete's helping me out with a piano action repair. Removing, resizing and installing 264 pins. Lots of fun :)

Nothing like the smell of new piano parts. It's time to start a full piano action rebuild.
Here's a video of the hymn 'Fairest Lord Jesus'. I recorded it as a test piece on the finished action rebuild on the Steinway B I've been working on. At the end of the video I had to check a few things so you'll see me still the action mechanism out.

The final pics (part 4) of the repair and action regulation of the Steinway B. Lots of aligning and adjusting parts. I moved the action mechanism to the actual piano to finish up the project.

These are the replacement parts (part 3) for the Steinway B piano action rebuild in my shop. I use Renner replacement hammers and flanges from Germany, rather than the traditional NY Steinway parts. Renner parts are used in all the Hamburg Steinway pianos, and I like their tone and consistency over the NY parts. Interestingly, in 2019 Steinway purchased the Renner company.

Here are more pictures(part 2) of the cleaning/ lube/polishing process, on the Steinway B in my shop. Correction from my last post. The exact length of the B is not 7', but 6' 10.5", for all of you who are crazy enough to care :)

Today I started cleaning and lubricating the action mechanism of Steinway B (7') semi-concert grand. The next steps will be to regulate (adjust) all the parts, back to the original factory specs. There are 20 adjustments per key that need to be made (1,760 total). Before that happens, I will be replacing all of the hammers. Those pictures to follow.

Got some projects accomplished today. One was adding an extension to my work bench. I used a piano lid that Justin Jansky and I started refinishing, many moons ago. The owner sold the piano without the lid, so it just collected dust...until now. I'm adjusting (regulating) a Steinway grand piano action, and the jigs on top of the piano lid, name Norman and Bernie, help simulate the height of the strings of the piano.
Renner has always been my favorite
supplier for action mechanism parts, especially for Steinways.

This one of my favorite hymns.
Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross (Ron Ochs, piano) Here's an arrangement of one of my favorite hymns. 1 Jesus, keep me near the cross; there a precious fountain, free to all — a healing stream — flows from Ca...
