Did you know that more than 25 million acres of American lawns are sodded? Lawns are important, as a front lawn has, on average, the same air cooling power as nine tons of air conditioning power. That is more than twice the cooling power of most central air conditioning units per average home.

It can be easy to think of lawns as just being for decoration, but they fulfill other important functions, too. In fact, one of the most important functions of a lawn is how a healthy lawn will generate oxygen to improve air quality.

Did you know the state of your lawn has a significant impact on home value? In fact, according to some experts, adding sod to your yard can add 20 percent to the overall value of the home, and it improves curb appeal as well.

If you have your lawn seeded or hydro-seeded, then you’ll need multiple applications of chemicals to keep various weeds or pests from eating the seeds. Since the seeds are already grown with sod, you don’t have to worry.

Do you have holes or rough patches in your lawn? Often, these can’t be regrown, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be repaired. Sod is the perfect way to fill the holes quickly with fully grown grass that will root in only a few weeks.

While it’s easy to only concentrate on the green blades of grass on your lawn, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. In fact, more than 90 percent of the weight of a grass plant is in its roots, and sod is the best way to get well-developed roots.

A single roll of sod might not weigh that much, but they can add up quickly. For example, enough sod to cover 500 square feet (a 50 ft by 10 ft lawn) can easily weigh 1,800-2,000 lbs, but a sod expert can help you figure out the best way to get it to your location.

If you have a transition zone, this means you have both shady and sunny spots, so you need to plan accordingly. Excellent sod types for these kinds of conditions include Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, and ryegrass.

Our peak period for sod installation runs from March through November, although we can install it year around. However, the spring, summer, and early fall provide prime conditions for the roots to grow and take hold in the soil.
