Teen takeovers, illegal gatherings, trespassing.

McKees Rocks Police has had several recent, illegal gatherings by young residents and non-residents.

Please know “takeovers” and similar gatherings that are happening all over the country will be met by law enforcement here in McKees Rocks. Unfortunately a lot of these parties lead to violence and criminal activity.

As of recent we have addressed “takeovers” and un-sanctioned parties which were advertised and planned here in the Borough.

We have been called to several vacant properties with 30-50 juveniles inside who run when we arrive.

Understand, some of the properties in this town are slated for demolition, have been deemed unsafe, collapse hazards and or generally hazardous, not to mention it is still a crime to break into a structure.

We do not want to see any person get hurt or injured inside a dilapidated property.

Please organize parties with permits and legal authority from the borough who will be glad to issue a park permit for gatherings.

Thank you all

Residents, do not forget the new hands free law will begin to be enforced next month. Please drive safely and keep your phones down, or mounted securely and on bluetooth!

As of June 5, 2025, Pennsylvania’s "Paul Miller’s Law" prohibits drivers from holding or using a hand-held interactive mobile device while driving or stopped in traffic.

Drivers must use hands-free technology (Bluetooth, speakerphone, or mounts). Violations result in warnings until June 5, 2026, after which a $50 fine plus costs applies.

Key Aspects

Prohibited: Holding a phone to talk, texting, emailing, searching the internet, or holding a device to watch videos while driving or at a red light.

What is Allowed: Using a phone with hands-free technology (Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, or a mounted device). A single tap or swipe is allowed to start or end a conversation.

Emergency Exception: Using a phone to call 911 or report an emergency is permitted.

Penalties:June 5, 2025 – June 4, 2026: Law enforcement will issue written warnings.

June 5, 2026 onwards: A summary offense with a $50 fine, plus court costs and fees.

No Points: Convictions will not result in points on your license.

Enforcement: This is a primary law, meaning police can pull you over solely for holding a phone.

Important Distinctions

Parking Exception: The law does not apply if the vehicle is safely parked on the side of or off the highway.

Commercial Drivers: Non-commercial drivers do not get points, but commercial drivers may have the violation recorded on their record.

Under 18: Drivers with learner’s permits or junior licenses are already prohibited from using a phone while driving, even hands-free.

Finally. This information is not proprietary to McKees Rocks. This is statewide and will be enforced by every city, township and borough in the commonwealth. It’s not a comparison post to which and what will be enforced and the bad driving habits of individuals that are not directly witnessed by law enforcement. It is simply an advisory post that the grace period regarding this new law will be over soon.

Residents:

We have been made aware of a new trend involving young people kicking front doors repeatedly before running away.

We are actively investigating several incidents, and when these juveniles are identified, they will be held accountable.

Parents, please talk to your kids and discourage this behavior immediately. We cannot stress enough, the dangers in these types of actions.

In the best case scenario, no damages are done, no residents are home and there is no critical incident to investigate.

In the worst case scenario, damages are done, residents are home, and interpret someone kicking their door as an attempted home invasion or burglary and they use deadly force to protect themselves from the perceived threat.

The last thing this or any community needs is a deadly force incident over what these young kids think is a trendy joke.

Please help us and talk to your children, your neighbors children, your nieces and nephews.

Thank you.

At approximately 1800 hrs, McKees Rocks Officers responded to a disturbance on Washington Street involving a female who was armed with a firearm according to 911.

The incident was being reported by a resident. As our officers responded, we determined she (actor) was inside her vehicle on the corner of the street.

Officers approached her to ascertain her identity and investigate further. She refused Officers commands to exit the vehicle and place the car into park. She sped away from officers and turned right on to Washington St. where she was essentially blocked in by a responding officers already parked, patrol unit.

The officers boxed her vehicle in and ordered her out again. The female then reversed into a marked patrol unit multiple times, and rammed our K9 vehicle head-on, nearly running over our K9 Ofc; striking his hand and arm before he jumped out of the way.

The female rammed a parked car on the roadway and drove away, through the opening. She left McKees Rocks via the McKees Rocks Bridge with officers in pursuit, following into the northside of Pittsburgh.

The female was being pursued for several moments, until she crashed into a front yard on Brighton Rd. and fled on foot. We gave chase towards the business district, and she was apprehended after a foot chase on Brighton Rd. with the assistance of Pittsburgh Police.

We determined actors name is Aniyah Moore

A subsequent search of her vehicle yielded a 40 caliber, illegally modified, fully automatic G***k pistol.

Moore is a PERSON NOT TO POSSESS a firearm

The handling of this incident is a testament to the training and professionalism within this police department, coupled with the core focus of Preservation of Life. It is because of these values alone, there were no catastrophic losses tonight.
