Kayla Gatlin, respiratory flight nurse, talked to students about her job on a jet. Kayla has to be ready to fly from a hospital after being notified in 2 hours. She talked about how she became interested in this field of medicine and what the requirements were to become a respiratory therapist flight nurse. Being able to be ready to go with just a few hours notice to anywhere in the world and to be able to save someone’s life or help get the patient to a hospital with more advanced care is a pretty exciting career.

Marquez Anderson, Career Coach at SMCC Workforce Center, came Wednesday to talk to the high school students about soft skills and how a resume should look. What makes a good employee?, Do you have good marketable skills for a job?, Are you on time?, Do you work well with others?, Do you communicate well wether written or verbal?, Can you resolve conflict constructively? These are some of the soft skills as well as others that would be considered when an employee is looking to hire someone.

Fowl, fish, four legged animals, and snakes were what Scott Nichols’ presentation was about. He is an officer of Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Learning about the many different kinds of jobs that are available through the wildlife department whether it is a desk job or working in the field was beneficial to the students. As an added bonus, Scott had a deer decoy and showed students how to set it up to catch illegal hunters.

DLC students enjoyed a fun day of activities and good food last Friday.
On March 2, 2026, DLC has purchased a Dr. Seuss-themed cake for the students to celebrate. The students can also wear a shirt with a Dr. Seuss theme.
The flu has hit us hard at DLC. More than half of our students are out sick. We also have teachers getting sick. We have decided to close down the school until Monday, February 9, 2026. The school will be cleaned thoroughly while we are out.
Classes resume tomorrow, January 27, 2026. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
