We are excited to share that MassMu held its inaugural Sensory Lab program!
This new program was created to provide an interactive, sensory-friendly STEAM experience that is welcoming and accessible for all participants. Sensory Lab is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning in a comfortable environment where guests can explore science, art, and sensory play at their own pace.
For our first project, participants created their own sensory lava jars, combining color, texture, movement, and observation into one engaging activity. This project offered a fun way to explore basic science and art concepts while also creating a calming sensory tool that participants could enjoy beyond the program.
Sensory Lab reflects MassMu’s continued commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and meaningful community engagement. We are proud to offer programs that invite people of all ages and abilities to learn, create, and connect through experiences that are thoughtful, playful, and welcoming.
We are so grateful to everyone who joined us for this first session, and we look forward to continuing to grow Sensory Lab as a space for discovery, creativity, and sensory-friendly learning at MassMu.

Visit Studio M to view "Across the Ashen River," by Ariella Har-Even. Ariella's exhibition investigates the spiritual need for burial and mourning, the repercussions of their absence, and the role of adornment in reactivating memory. She writes, "This exhibition includes some pieces created in dialogue with artworks made in extremis—at the point of death—by artists who were persecuted, displaced, or killed during the Holocaust. Rather than reproducing or reinterpreting them directly, my aim in this exhibition is to focus on the ways in which memory is held, mediated, and reactivated."
Ariella's jewelry is primarily made of enamel, silver, bronze, and copper, but it also includes other materials such as cloth, pine, ceramic, and leather. Images: 1. "Badges," 2022, Enamel on copper, calfskin leather, thread, nickel silver 2. Photograph of the artist
A podcast interview with the artist will be available beginning Tuesday, June 16th, and the exhibition will be on display through June 21st.
