Hunger doesn’t wait, and for some, neither does the lingering risk of being left behind.

Some families in Mazatlán face one question almost daily: where will the next meal come from? For some, food isn’t guaranteed, school isn’t a certainty, and safe spaces are rare.

One Saturday, a Back2Back staff member opened the doors to a soup kitchen, and everything shifted.

Today, 70 children arrive every week for a meal, and they receive something just as critical as food: a place where they are known and never alone.

One family arrived with two boys who were unable to say their full names, and had never been to school. Today, they’re learning and growing, their family is finding the support they need.

Still, more children and families are in this very moment of need.

Hope* lost both of her parents and was facing a future no child should navigate alone.

She didn’t know who would care for her, where she belonged, or what would come next. Grief shaped so much of her early life; trust didn’t come easily after losing the people who once felt safest.

But over time, the direction of her story shifted.

Today, Hope is studying psychology at university, hoping to offer others the same care and unconditional love she received herself.

Her story is a reminder that healing often begins quietly, through safety, consistency, belonging, and people willing to stay.
