Martinez Library provides public internet computers, WIFI, a steady supply of new materials, and provides regular programming for all ages.

The Martinez library, completed in 1941, is located in an historic downtown waterfront community that also hosts the county government center for Contra Costa. The library houses a small historical collection that includes works by many famous local and state figures, including Martinez resident John Muir. Science Heroes: Digging It! at the Martinez Library

Join the author/illustrator team behind the series for a fun and engaging author talk and book reading as they read from their book M is for Martinez, show how to sign the alphabet in American Sign Language, and talk about their process and books.

The first 20 families will receive a free copy of the book, M is for Martinez. You can always reserve a copy of the book through the library also! No registration is required.

The is celebrating the sesquicentennial this year. Join us for special events throughout 2026 to celebrate 150 years of Martinez and 80 years of current library building!

AI Literacy for Everyday Life
Thursday, June 18 at 11 a.m. via Zoom

This interactive online session, led by French’nette Bryant (AI Consultant | ORAI), introduces the fundamentals of AI literacy with a focus on real-life, practical use. Participants will learn how to use tools like ChatGPT to support everyday tasks such as writing, research, organization, and creative projects.

Summer Reading is here! This summer, "Plant a Seed, Read!" From June 1- August 1 track your reading using a paper passport or online via Beanstack. Everyone who completes summer reading wins prizes, including a free book, and is entered in a drawing for a chance to win more amazing prizes.

Zine Making Workshop
Wednesday, June 10th 2:00-3:30

Calling all young writers ready to put their stories out there! This workshop will start with a review of the revolutionary history of Zines as a means of sharing art and ideas without censorship. Participants will then be led through the physical process of making a Zine and supported in crafting their own original short story, non-fiction argument, or mini-memoir. The goal is to empower young writers to express themselves authentically by exploring the power of eight-page stories and short-form writing.
