Brindle

This past year the Mini Rex breed has gotten an approved COD to try and make solid ej Mini Rex accepted. During the process there were two options: use the current Harlequin breed color standard or create a new definition with new expectations and DQs. If they were to use the Harlequin term, the variety would be bound to the rules of the existing Harlequin standard which is extremely strict. The breed, if you didn't know, is almost exclusively judged on their color and has a laundry list of DQs. The breed itself struggles to get the color right so this would obviously not be ideal. Secondly, bars on an ej pattern create poor quality distribution in the broken version. A mottled ej pattern creates better distribution. So naturally, the COD holders worked directly with the ARBA Standards Committee to write the first ever Brindle definition in which a mottled pattern is preferred. This was a revolutionary thing. From now on, ALL solid ej Mini Rex are referred to as Brindle - there is no more harlequin. If any other breeds want to have solid ej as a newly accepted variety they will either have to abide by the Harlequin definition or the Brindle definition. For all the reasons listed above, a Rex COD for Brindle, for the first time in history, will have traction. Rejoice!

If the Tri rex breeders in the country have any desire to make solid ej Rex an accepted variety one day then I suggest a few things to start now. #1 get used to calling them Brindle. #2 start breeding away from barred and striped Brindles because those will one day become DQs.

From one of my tri rex breeding groups!!! Omg finally won’t be long and my brindled rex can be shown as well!

Day 6 of 35, muscovy, 13 went in, only 11 are developing. That’s still a lot of ducklings. We’ll see how many hatch in 29 days.

Keep forgetting to update on here but we picked up a doe and buck from M&W rex in Minnesota I was looking to add better type, fur, and faster growth. This black and white doe is only 3 months old and already 9.59lbs. Ive got a bunch of pregnant does to check over the next few days and get nest boxes going. Soo exciting!!
