Stitching at The Marie Webster House in Marion. I have three pieces in process that I’ve been coming to work on. I don’t normally hang works not finished but this exhibit is about the process. I will be in the exhibit stitching at today and another couple of days while it is still up. Today I’m working on Chillin’ based on a photograph of my daughter hanging out with the orangutan statue many years back. It is a whole cloth piece of flannel with rusted line drawing and hand dyed silk threads. 4/17 Thu in Galleries time 1-3

I’m stitching this morning in Marie Webster’s studio at The Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana. My exhibit was conceived after a Studio Art Quilt Associates exhibit challenged us to have a dialogue with Marie Webster who wrote the first book on quilting and designed patters she drafted inspired by her garden. I wanted to continue that conversation with her here in her house. In her studio they installed the piece, Dragonflies, that was in the exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields several years ago. There is a photo of Marie’s first quilt in the case and what is believed to be her little red dress. If you’re in the area the exhibit is through May 3 and you may find me stitching in the galleries. Planned stitching dates remaining are. 4/12 Sat in Galleries  10-12 free admission.

I spent a few hours at The Quilters Hall of Fame today stitching in a gallery. I pulled down off the wall one of my book inspired by ancient Chinese dragonscale books binding that is a place for me to explore stitching. I started a stitch motif that David Sloma and I discussed at his workshop that I’ve been wanting to give a try for a while. It is a satin stitch so it doesn’t feel like I got very far. But stitching is meditative. These are my planned times to be in the Marie Webster house.

I had such an engaging time with .studios Julian Jamaal Jones, artist in residence at Wabash College Fine Arts Center. Prof Annie Strader was a wonderful hostess and many thanks to Sugar Creek Quilters for including Charm Club. We enjoyed hearing about his process and exhibit, Amen, and had a lively conversation about art quilts.

I am celebrating that my exhibit at The Quilters Hall of fame is installed! Three years in the making: I am excited and relieved it is ready after weather delays. I wanted to celebrate with something special and was choosing between Nocino (my go to for special and the last bottle from our last trip to Italy), my last bottle of “Catholic wine” (if you know, you know) from when we lived in Italy, or a special bottle from our trip along the Danube before the pandemic. I saved the Catholic in case needed for and Iris come to visit. And went for the Hungarian Palinka with the plumb in the bottle. Some of my ancestors came from Hungary. Egészségedre, salute, cheers! Thank you .mcconnell and all of the volunteers for making it happen!

These little beauties were made a few years ago, but the first time they will be on exhibit and will be for sale at a discount because there is no commission and 100% of the funds will go to The Quilters Hall of Fame. In Process opens Tuesday and will be up until May 3rd. Keep an eye out for a make and take workshop.
