Breeding for Personality: Why It Matters
Meet DAVIS FAMILY COAL MINER 😍
I am absolutely delighted to have brought Coal into my breeding program when he was just a kid three years ago.
Coal is tied to a fence post with nothing but a single knot in a hay tie, calmly eating while I trim his hooves. He is trained to stand on a milk stand, but ultimately I have found this to be what works best for me and the big boys.
Despite little handling since breeding season ended over five months ago, he stands quietly, making my job easy.
This isn’t just luck. Breeding and culling for personality plays a huge role in a manageable, low-stress herd.
A well-tempered animal makes daily chores, hoof trimming, and even vet care safer and easier. While training has its place, genetics set the foundation.
A solid breeding program looks beyond conformation and production—because good milk and strong kids are even better when they come from animals that are a pleasure to work with.
He has two first freshening yearlings retained this year. More updates soon 😁

New Beginnings start with Spring Cleaning 😬

Exciting changes are underway as I prepare to kick off the February baby boom!
By the end of this round, all but two does will have kidded, bringing new life and positive energy to the farm!
With big life changes happening, Risible Ranch will be getting a fresh new look (and likely a new herd name) in the very near future.
I’m still committed to milk testing and, while I didn’t try to arrange a Special Linear Appraisal stop this year as I had hoped, I’m looking forward to hitting the show ring for the first time and taking the herd to the next level.
As I adjust to a new chapter, I’ll be offering some great kids and milkers soon—stay tuned!

It’s day 142 for my January kidders! Babies are coming any day! This kidding group consists of 4 homebred first fresheners and precious Dottie.
BELLA LUNA HAYS DARLIN DOTTIE (pictured) is looking like she’s almost ready to go! Although her udder hasn’t fully filled yet, I’m feeling (and seeing) no ligaments and slight ick butt.
Keeping my 🤞🤞🤞 for Dottie daughters this year, I don’t want to be repeating triplet bucks!
RISIBLE RANCH IM ALLWEASKED4 (bred for standard lamanchas) and RISIBLE RANCH CM BELLA BAMBINA (bred for F1 mini lamancha) doe kids will be retained.
RISIBLE RANCH GUINEVERE and RISIBLE RANCH L BUTTERCREAM are F1 mini’s bred back to a Nigerian. Kids will be 75% Nigerian and 25% lamancha and available for PETS or TACOS.
