Two classic matching nightstands by Athens Furniture Company, refinished in a true off-black color (with warm undertone) with fluted details.

Love the gorgeous neutral paint stain oak base, which needed to be modified from its dated look. Off came some dated details too. Cutting oak is hard work!!! Check it out: clean line modern look!

Almost done with prep work....it's got to be ugly before it gets pretty. Right?

More caulking to fill up gap of cracks that bothers me. So close now to painting.

Finished the ugly work of cleaning and prepping these matching nightstands.

But, cracks or gaps like this just bug like, so, out comes the caulk! Second layer of primer....then one last primer layer, then fun part---painting!

The vision...

Perfectly imperfect oversized nightstand pair. Hand sanding ALL those fluted valleys and "mountain" areas...sigh...@360! Times like this is when I wish I had a professional surf prep sander. But I can do it :) I will be the last "hold-out", just like the flip phone...lol

These are huge! They coordinated well together with the fluted details.

Fix couple patches of veneer and restore it using dark walnut Restor-A-Finish then seal with Howard's wax.

Could NOT figure out how to take out the drawers on one nightstand! Painted with drawers all in ....

Difficulty choosing between the two hardware shapes (gold oval k***s or smaller antique brass k***s). Decided to go with the antique brass color instead....made the contrast pop more and color coordinated well with gorgeous paper liner inside.

This piece sat done for a long time from when Grandma moved, waiting to be photographed. The boys are awesome at moving everything for me. However, I think their patience reached its limits with these two pieces. Thank you!

I love potential & try to keep integrity of the vintage piece but also to enhance/recreate it for the modern home.

Solid gorgeous dark brown oak lighted display glass cabinet refinished in a rich Kona stain to showcase precious decor/collections. Doors can be taken off for an open-shelf modern look too.

So glad decided to add vintage William Morris wallpaper at last minute to the backing! It echoes the lines of the vintage, original refreshed hardware.

Perfect for small spaces!

Have another identical one....what should I do with it? Paint it or black stain, with wood grains showing through???...hmmm. Grandma's going to be SURPRISED!!!

Almost done in Jan but took a long break from them... better to walk away then go do something fast and stupid. They sat at corner waiting for final touches for months...

Wrapping up 2025 with these vintage, gorgeous solid oak nightstands from Keller's Chestnut Creek series, refinished in a rich custom Kona and mixed stain.

You know when you think it's going to be quick & easy....it's NEVER that!

White rings/heat stains on top of one nightstand....tried gel stain but visible. Tried olive oil & vinegar mixture, didn't work. Tried heat gun at full force...worked...but when stain went on top of it, the white rings came back!!! So frustrating....

So, sanded raw. Then, should have just waited for the correct stain that I wanted to put on in the first place, but nowhere can it be found in any stores. So...instead of ordering it online & waited, went ahead and mix own stains. In short, just practice patience & wait for the online order to save frustration & lots of redos.

In some lights, they appear reddish, sometimes more oak/dark brown. Gorgeous with refreshed oil bronze Chippendale style hardware with highlights of antique gold. Done & happy.
