Dear Sam,
I never thought I’d be writing a letter like this, but here I am.
My best friend and her husband hit a rough patch. They were talking divorce, living like roommates, barely speaking to each other. During that time, me and her husband got a little closer. Nothing crazy at first we'd known each other for years through family cookouts, parties, and hanging out as a group. One day while they were separated, he came by my place to help me with a few things around the house. We started talking about life, relationships, and everything that was going wrong in his marriage. One conversation turned into a couple of drinks, and a couple of drinks turned into a decision we both regret. We slept together.
The next morning, reality hit us hard. We agreed it was a mistake, promised it would never happen again, and decided to take that secret to the grave.
Then something unexpected happened. They worked it out.
After months of problems, they reconciled, rebuilt their marriage, and got back together. Honestly, I was relieved. I love my friend, and the last thing I ever wanted was to be responsible for destroying her family. But now I'm carrying a secret that refuses to stay buried. I'm pregnant. Every day I wake up wrestling with the same question. Do I tell the truth and risk blowing up the life they've worked so hard to rebuild? Or do I stay quiet and deal with this on my own?
Part of me feels like telling them is the right thing to do. Another part feels like I'd be selfish for dropping a bomb on their marriage after they've finally found peace. I'm scared of losing my best friend. I'm scared of being judged. And honestly, I'm scared of what happens next no matter what I choose.
So, do I tell my best friend and her husband the truth about the baby, knowing it could destroy their marriage and our friendship? Or do I keep my mouth shut and handle this situation alone?
Would I be wrong if I finally told them everything?
