This cutie was found under a tree in the tree lawn of maple heights high school. The auto tech instructor scooped her up and brought her inside. ❤️

She's very sorry she ran away, and asked me to call her mom to pick her up. 😉

It's baby raccoon season 🦝. If you find a baby in your yard during the day, do not panic. Sometimes momma loses track of her kids or is in the process of moving them from one den to another. Momma raccoon knows her babies' cries well and can definitely hear them.

However, if it's too risky to come out (people, dogs, lawn mowers, etc.), she will wait until dusk to go retrieve the lost baby. You can do one of two things to help. Leave the baby where it's at as long as it's safe and not likely to be disturbed.
Or you can put the baby in a box or plastic tote. As long as the box or tote is tall enough, the baby won't be able to get out. If you have a tote, place the lid over it, just don't close it all the way. (Leave room for air flow)

Eventually, momma will come looking and the baby will start calling! By dawn, the baby should be home safe and sound. In Cuyahoga County, along with a few other counties, moving a raccoon from the area it's found is against state law. Traveling with a raccoon to a rehabilitator is also against state law. the ohio division of natural resources has more information about laws pertaining to raccoons.

If you have further questions or find yourself with a baby in your yard you can call (216)587-9646 and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

He will be at the Cuyahoga county animal shelter*
Grey Pit mix. He's very nervous and really would like to find his way back home. He was picked up by a resident over the weekend and brought to the kennel with an officers help .Unfortunately he escaped the officer before being placed in a secure kennel.
Today, (Monday morning) he came back to the kennes and I was able to secure him. No chip or ID.
I believe he was found on the East side of maple heights.
Please reach out to maple heights PD non emergency line or call the anima control directly.

⚠️PROTECT OUTDOOR ANIMALS: Temperatures are expected to reach below zero with the wind chill, along with several inches of snow accumulation over the weekend. These conditions are extremely dangerous for certain outdoor animals, depending on their species, breed, health, and age, especially without adequate protection.

➡️For outdoor dogs, provide a shelter elevated off the ground with a floor, three sides, a roof, and a doorway large enough for easy access. Add a windbreak and cover the entrance with a material flap that does not obstruct the dog’s entry or exit. Avoid using fabric or blankets, which can freeze and make the dog colder. Instead, use straw inside and around the shelter for insulation and warmth. Do not use hay, as it can become damp and ineffective. The shelter should be large enough for the dog to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably while retaining body heat. Confirm that any newly added material over the doorway does not scare the dog or prevent it from entering. Always provide unfrozen water to keep the dog hydrated and offer extra nutritional food, as animals burn more energy to stay warm. Check tethers to ensure they are not frozen to the ground, restricting movement or access to shelter.
If you are able to bring them inside a warm structure or home, please do.

🛑 Yes, we understand there are certain breeds that enjoy the snow and cold weather. WE GET IT. Keep in mind that Ohio law doesn't define shelter based on breed type or species, but requires access to adequate shelter whether they use it or not. Regardless of the breed, their overall age, health, and other factors may determine their ability to sustain protection from certain inclement weather based on the length of exposure.

➡️For large animals, provide species-appropriate shelters along with adequate food and unfrozen water.
