While preparing the foundation for our Lost Creek Project, we discovered a killdeer nest on the job site.

If you've never seen one before, killdeer lay their eggs directly on the ground, usually in gravel or rocky areas. The nest can't be moved and if it is, the mother will abandon the eggs.

So instead of moving it, we worked around it.

We built a small shelter to help protect the nest, marked off the area, and adjusted our work so she could keep coming back. The construction noise startles her from time to time, but every time, she returns to her eggs.

Moments like this are a good reminder that building isn't just about putting up walls. It's about making thoughtful decisions, adapting when you need to, and taking care of what matters along the way.

We're looking forward to seeing those eggs hatch and we'll be here, building around them until they do.

At the Lost Creek project, we're building with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF), interlocking forms filled with reinforced, monolithic concrete and rebar. It's one of the most exciting milestones on any build and also the most critical.

Before we ever pour a single yard of concrete, we've already coordinated with geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, surveyors, and the city. Soil testing, load calculations, permits - every box checked before the trucks roll in.

Here's the reality most people don't think about: you can fix a bad tile choice later. You cannot fix a bad foundation. Ever.

That's why we don't rush it, we don't cut corners, and we don't pour until it's right.
