Congrats on the amazing work Stay Strong - Live Long - Wilson County!!!!
What has been a year-long project is starting to come to fruition, and I couldn't be more excited. The Stay Strong Live Long Wilson County Coalition and the Cultivate Fredonia Healthy Living Action Team started collaborating on a project in the spring of 2021 that would provide Wilson County residents who don't own a vehicle or a bicycle a free means of transportation that provides health benefits as well. But the bikes won't be limited to just local residents; visitors will also be encouraged to check out a bike and enjoy a leisurely ride as they explore our community. The City of Fredonia stepped in and covered the liability insurance, and with the support of the County Commissioners, the bikes will be housed at the Wilson County Health Department. Six bikes have been ordered, and we hope to have the Bike Share Program up and running in the fall.
Funding for the Bike Share is being provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas as part of Wilson County’s Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant.
