🚨 Columbia has officially joined the rest of the Ivy League.
Beginning with the 2027-2028 admissions cycle, Columbia will once again require applicants to submit SAT or ACT scores. This makes it the final Ivy League institution to reinstate a standardized testing requirement.
What does this mean for students? As top colleges renew their focus on academic readiness, students who start preparing early and challenge themselves academically will be best positioned for success.
With that said, it’s important to keep in mind that although test scores matter, it’s still only a piece of a holistic review.

AP exams can feel like everything in the moment, but top colleges evaluate them with far more nuance than many students realize.

As AP season comes to a close, understanding how highly selective colleges actually view AP exams can help families approach the process with more clarity—and less stress.

Being waitlisted at an Ivy League school isn’t the end.
The strongest students act with intention: sending a concise note reaffirming genuine interest, engaging thoughtfully with admissions, and leveraging advocacy from their school counselor.
At the same time, the smartest students balance optimism with realism. That means securing a spot at another institution and preparing to move forward—while keeping the door open for a potential waitlist offer.
It’s not about doing more, it’s about doing what matters.
