Guess whose upcoming recording these beauties are getting used on?

Checking mixes today for new music. Supplementing my system is- Powercell line conditioner, FEQ X4 Carbon, Active Ground Block SE, Tranquility Pods, Ethernet Hub, and of course, the SR cables, and hybrid acoustic screens and speaker cloaks. The core of the system is Z10e power amp, DAVE DAC, MScaler upsampler, Phoenix reclocker, Sonoma M1, Q balanced power distribution, CRBN headphones and SCM20 monitors. All this in the corner of a bedroom and it reproduces music better than any studio control room I've heard.

I love all of this gear so much but right now, I'm obsessed with Synergistic Research and DHDI products because they feel like alien technology. They're the products of minds that are taking unorthodox perspectives about acoustics, electricity, sound or music and, well....all that resonates deeply with me.

I cofounded Material in 1979 and was a member until early 1984. Within 5 years, we morphed from being a downtown New York band who played shows and occasionally released our own records, to a production team, working with artists like Nona Hendrix and eventually, Herbie Hancock. Through this period, I cut my teeth as a synth player and eventually realized that my place was behind a recording console and not on a stage.

-The first picture is from CBGB in 1979 and I’m using an EMS Synthi AKS that belonged to the late jazz drummer Stu Martin.

- The second picture is from Club Hurrah in 1979 and features the legendary guitarist Sonny Sharrock who was a touring member of Material from 1980.
- The third picture is of me and Bill Laswell in 1981 working at RPM Studios on Nona Hendryx’s first solo record for RCA.
- The last picture is from a 1983 Material show featuring the Japanese trumpet player, Toshinori Kondo at the Seibu department store performance space in Tokyo, Japan. This was the last time I shared a stage as a member of Material and my final live performance. Three years later, I began producing a relatively unknown band from Los Angeles called The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

My Moog.

It's 2 systems combined, one from the 60's and one from the 70's. It has 46 original modules, plus a quantizer, ring modulator, TRS-banana adaptor panel and portamento/slew generator that are custom.
