Heroes - Max's, NYC 6-26-81 (w/Walter Lure)
After The Heartbreakers split at the end of 1977, Walter Lure played and recorded through the late 1970s and early 1980s with several bands including The Blessed and The Incognitos. Two songs he recorded in 1978 (Seven Day Weekend and Too Much Ju**ie Business) didn't get released on vinyl until 1983 under the band name The Heroes which at the time was his current band. The Heroes of 1983 never released anything but someone was nice enough to to make this audience recording of one of their gigs. A few Heartbreakers songs are played, a couple of covers and a pile of new songs, some of which were only released in the 1990s on the Waldos Rent Party CD and others remain unreleased. The band: Walter Lure - Guitar & Vocals, Richie Lure - Guitar & Vocals, Danny Hirsh - Bass, Billy Rogers - Drums.

Richard Hell performs at the Whiskey A Go Go, in 1982, with the Outsets as his Voidoids. Marty Thau released Richard's second album on his Red Star label and a national tour was booked by his management in support of it. Only, Richard had no band then. We were looking for opportunities to promote the Outsets, so a deal was struck; The Outsets would open for Richard and then return as Voidoids for his show. Since Richard was playing bass, Danny Hirsch, the Outsets bass player had to play guitar during Richard's set. Only Danny had never played guitar so Ivan gave him a 3 or 4 week crash course in being a Voidoid guitarist. The band was flying between cities(!), but the tour had been oversold which caused tension with the promoters. Pretty much nothing else went as planned, either. It ended up being a hot mess. Richard Hell fu***ng up was almost as entertaining as Richard Hell performing well as he did nothing by half measure. Though we ended up not being able to do much for the Outsets, the whole time with them was extremely rock and roll and we never regretted a moment of it.
