What a wonderful season it was! A total of 493 hours of opera were performed at the opera house! A heartfelt thank you to every single of you who came and supported us!
We wanted to thank our friend Stewart Rose for his stellar playing on both assistant and fourth horn for the past two years!
Our very own Anne Scharer is moving back to Fourth Horn after playing Acting Second for some years now. We’re extremely lucky to have her in our section indeed!
We also welcomed Roy Femenella as one of the official Second Horns of our section! It’s also a pleasure to have him here with us!
Now, onto two concerts at Carnegie Hall and then our awaited European Tour in Paris, London and Baden-Baden with our music director Yannick Nezet-Seguin!
Come say hi if you’re attending!

Last week, Met Opera Hornist Barbara Jostlein Currie launched her new company Brass Witch!
In partnership with Marcus Bonnas’s “MB Cases” in Brazil, Brass Witch is a new accessory made for every brass instrument type and make.
Last week, Met Orchestra Principal Horn Erik Ralske became the first ever “Brass Witch of the Week”, one of the greatest honors of his life.😉
This week, Anne Scharer, acting second horn, is our second “Brass Witch of the Week”!
(Thank you Anne and Erik!
-Barbara)
📯 It’s time to meet our second “Brass Witch of the Week”!⚡️
Anne Scharer joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 1998 on Third Horn, moving to Second Horn 6 years ago, and dabbled on Fourth Horn for several years.
If there is one member of the MET Orchestra Musicians who knows her way around the and repertoire, it’s Anne!
Here’s what she says about the Brass Witch:
“I absolutely love my Brass Witch!
It’s easy to use during rehearsals and doesn’t scratch or clamp down on my horn, making the horn feel free and breezy!”
On top of her extensive music career, Anne is an accomplished potter, and simply the warmest colleague- we are so fortunate to have Anne in our MET Opera Horns section.
