I have been on the receiving end of thousands of cover letters and emails from job candidates. "The devil is in the details." Terrible correspondence can ruin your chances of getting the job (typos, grammatical errors, lack of focus, etc...). Over familiarity is a no-no. Be friendly, but, professional. As a freelancer, pricing your time can be tricky. Know your worth. Have an idea of what your competition is charging. Be mindful of the size of the company you are interviewing with. And, be knowledgeable about supply and demand. Are there a lot of people available who do what you do interviewing for the same project? Be confident and do not undersell yourself, but, be realistic as well.
