Bed Bug Awareness Week: Day 6 – The Ultimate Survivalists 🪳

****Think bed bugs are just ordinary pests? Think again. These critters have some downright terrifying "superpowers":

🌡️ Temperature Armor: They can survive in freezing cold temperatures up to a certain point, and need sustained, intense heat (113F to 120F) to completely eliminate them and their eggs.

🍽️ The Fasting Champions: An adult bed bug can survive for months without a single blood meal just by slowing down its metabolism.

🧪 Chemical Resistance: Over time, they’ve developed thick outer shells that make them highly resistant to many over-the-counter bug sprays.

The Takeaway: This is why "bug bombs" from the grocery store usually just scatter them instead of killing them. Leave it to the pros with the right equipment!

🕵️‍♂️ Bed Bug Awareness Week: Day 5 – The Sneaky Hiding Spots 🕵️‍♂️

Think bed bugs only stay in beds? Think again! While mattresses are their favorite home base, these pests are called "hitchhikers" and "hide-and-seek champions" for a reason.

Because their bodies are paper-thin, adult bed bugs can slip into any crack or crevice where a credit card can fit. If an infestation grows, they will happily migrate away from the bed to find safety.

Here are 4 sneaky hiding spots you should always check during a home inspection:

🔌 1. Electrical Outlets & Light Switches
It sounds crazy, but bed bugs love the dark, hollow warmth behind your outlet faceplates. They will even use the internal wiring channels to travel between rooms!

🖼️ 2. Picture Frames & Wall Decor
Check the backs of framed photos, mirrors, and posters hanging near your bed or couch. They love hiding in the tight gaps between the frame and the wall.

🪵 3. Baseboards and Carpet Edges
Where your wall meets the floor is a prime highway for bed bugs. They love to wedge themselves under loose baseboards or right where the carpet grips the tack strip.

🛋️ 4. Upholstered Furniture & Curtains
Don't forget the living room! Recliners, sofas, and even the deep pleats at the top of window curtains are common hot spots—especially if it's a favorite spot for family movie nights.

Knowing where to look is half the battle. If you spot signs of bugs in any of these tricky areas, don't try to spray them yourself—DIY sprays often just cause them to scatter deeper into your walls!

🧳 Bed Bug Awareness Week: Day 4 – Travel & Prevention ✈️
It’s peak travel season, which means it’s also peak "hitchhiker" season! Bed bugs are world-class travelers. They don’t fly or jump, but they are experts at crawling into suitcases, backpacks, and clothing to hitch a ride straight into your home.
Don't bring home an unwanted souvenir! Follow our ultimate vacation checklist to stay protected:
🧼 1. Practice the "Bathroom Rule"
When you first walk into a hotel or vacation rental, immediately place your luggage in the bathroom or on a tiled floor. Bed bugs hate tile and have a hard time hiding there. Keep your bags there until you've inspected the room! (but away from cloth shower curtains!!)
🔍 2. The 4-Step Room Check
Before you unpack, check these four areas:
The Mattress: (Check out our Day 2 video for exactly what to look for!)
The Headboard: Pull it slightly away from the wall if possible and look behind it.
The Sofa/Chairs: Check the seams of any upholstered furniture.
The Luggage Rack: Inspect the webbing and wooden/metal joints.
🧺 3. Coming Home Checklist
When you return from a trip, unpack your clothes directly into the washing machine. Wash and dry everything on high heat (at least 30 minutes in the dryer), even the clothes you didn’t wear. Heat is a bed bug's worst enemy!
Safe travels start with smart prevention. Save this post for your next getaway! 🚘✈️

🔍 Bed Bug Awareness Week: Day 3 – Myths vs. Facts
🛑There is a lot of misinformation out there about bed bugs, and believing the wrong things can make a small problem a whole lot bigger. Today, we are setting the record straight and busting the 3 biggest bed bug myths!
Let’s separate fiction from fact:
❌ MYTH 1: Bed bugs only live in dirty or cluttered homes.
✅ FACT: Bed bugs do not care about cleanliness! They are attracted to warmth, carbon dioxide, and blood, not dirt. They can infest pristine 5-star luxury hotels just as easily as any residential home. Clutter just gives them more places to hide.
❌ MYTH 2: You can’t see bed bugs with the naked eye.
✅ FACT: While they are excellent at hiding, they aren't invisible! Adult bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed ($4\text{ mm}$ to $7\text{ mm}$) and are easily visible. Even their tiny, milky-white eggs can be seen if you look closely at mattress seams.
❌ MYTH 3: If you get bed bugs, you have to throw away your mattress and clothes.
✅ FACT: Absolutely not! Throwing away furniture is expensive and usually unnecessary (and can actually spread them to other rooms). Most mattresses and clothing can be completely treated and saved using professional heat treatments or specialized pest control solutions.
Knowledge is your best defense. Don't let rumors dictate how you protect your home! Have you ever heard any of these myths before?
Drop a 🤔 in the comments if any of these surprised you!

🚨 TICK ALERT: According to a recent report by KSNT 27 News, tick activity is reaching record-breaking highs across Kansas, with national numbers hitting a 10-year peak.
Shorter, milder winters mean these pests are out earlier, in greater numbers, and looking for a blood meal.
🛡️ Don't let your backyard become a hazard zone for your family and pets. From Lyme disease to Rocky Mountain spotted fever, the risks are higher than ever this season.
Protect your property. Contact World Pest Control today to set up a barrier treatment that keeps ticks where they belong: away from your home.

Did you know? 🧠

Ants are actually one of the natural predators of termites. But if you see them fighting like this near your foundation, it means both colonies are uncomfortably close to your home.

Ants: Looking for food.

Termites: Looking for wood.
