Book Review
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
✏️: This was such a wonderful story, especially in a hard part of my life. Books truly are magic objects that can transform our ordinary lives.
Briana is coming off of a horrid marriage and is almost divorced. Her brother in desperate need of a kidney transplant and another doctor has been hired – she thinks to take the job that she wants. This new doctor is hated by everyone and he just started. Briana doesn’t like him for the simple fact of him trying to take the job that is meant to be hers and after him coming into her brothers room she hates him even more. But…words on paper and cupcakes can sure change things in a blink of an eye and this doctor becomes more than meets the eye.
I needed the laughs and the smiles that these two doctors and their letter writing were giving me. Lieutenant Dan stole my heart and refuses to give it back! While we all know that most love stories are nothing like this – it does give me the initiative to show my husband more love and affection than he normally would receive – after all, we are lucky to have one another. Five stars for a lovely read that was hard to put down and offered me smiles when the anxiety was pushing frowns.

“After all, it’s the librarian’s sworn purpose to bring books together with their one true reader.” — Kate Morton
My goal in becoming a librarian is simple - I just want to share the magic that a good book can be to its reader. Not every book will be for every one BUT, there IS a book for every single person. That’s our job as a librarian, to help connect you to that book that will entrance you in to reading and never let you go.
It was a journey - some classes I loved and some I absolutely detested but, regardless I learned and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to add to my education. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me, although I do hope to end up in an elementary school library.
Thank you ALL for being supportive and encouraging in this journey - we all need that at some point in our lives and I’m thankful to have had that.
Finally - FOREVER LSU! 💜💛

It’s Not Her by Mary Kubica
✏️: If you’re looking for a fast paced murder enraged story that draws you in from the first page, look no further!
This is the story of a family that goes off for a vacation hoping to ease the stress of a recent job loss but instead it ends tragically. Death and a missing teenager.
The details are what make this story so good – the way they’re perfectly placed to illicit our brains to think a certain “good” character could be guilty or is it someone else? I really loved this story – it kept me on my toes turning the pages trying to figure out “whodunnit” and I was honestly shocked at the ending. From the beginning to the end, it was a great reading experience that took me away from my reality and for that I’m giving it four stars!

Porcupines by Fran Fabriczki
✏️: This story was interesting, not something I’ve read before and therefore, kept my attention all the way through.
This novel is about Sonia, a Hungarian immigrant and her daily antics in raising her daughter Mila by herself. It delves between different time periods that have shaped the way that she thinks, believes, and how Mila came to be. It’s a story of growth, a story of reflection and a story that shares what most parents realize after their kids are screaming at them. That children do not come with a handbook and we’re simply winging everything that we do with a wing and a prayer and hoping we get it right.
I liked this story a lot. Book of the Month has really brought me into contact with authors that I normally would have never heard of nor would I have picked up their books. I’m giving this a solid four stars – great job on keeping me reading and anticipating what was coming next!

A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St James
✏️: Overall, I enjoyed this book – I liked going back to Fell and seeing the references to previous books.
Three siblings lost their little brother years ago and have moved on with their lives though not successfully. They all have their issues that reflect back to their horrendous day where he just somehow disappeared after a game of hide and seek. But now, he has called them all back home – so what does he want?
This story started off really slow for me – which is not something Simone normally does. I felt like the points of view kind of blended together at first and I had a hard time with that BUT….I powered through and it was WORTH it! The story picked up close to the half way point and it became interesting and even a bit creepy. I do wish there was more creep and ghost encounters as with her other books however. I’m actually unsure how to rate this story, I enjoyed half of it…?? What are yalls thoughts, how do yall rate books in these types of situations?
