Struggling learners often work so hard to decode words that comprehension is lost. This actually can create more confusion because they do not have an "Aha!" moment when they have decoded the actual phonemes.

Dysregulated behavior is communication in its rawest form. When clients do not yet have the words, skills, or tools to express a need, their behavior often speaks... loudly.

Sometimes when I am interviewing a potential client, their lack of friends comes up. Many neurodivergent learners attempt to maintain connection but struggle when their dysregulated emotions or disorientation affects conversations, play, or problem solving.

By strengthening a client's ability to self regulate through one-on-one facilitation, they become better able to keep and maintain healthy connections with peers.

When our emotions are not regulated, we are not able to take in new information.
Often neurodivergent learners do not simply "grow into" learning to process their own BIG emotions. When learners understand what is happening in their mind, body, and feelings, they can utilize their Davis tools to focus and process.
