In my recent blog post, "How the Ryder Cup Mirrors the Incredible Cost of Federal Government Shutdowns", I draw a unique analogy between the ethos of sportsmanship and the stakes of governance—reminding us that when rules, respect, and fairness break down, everyone pays.
From taxpayer losses and stalled projects to moral decay in public discourse, the article challenges leaders to ask: are we competing for points or for principles?
Let’s take that lesson to heart: in our work, policy, and leadership, how we play matters as much as what we win.

Enough” isn’t just a word—it’s a turning point. In my recent blog post, I am challenging all of us to move past partisan rancor, sensationalism, and division, calling instead for leaders and citizens alike to draw principled lines: in political rhetoric, in institutional overreach, in how we treat one another. At its core, the article reminds us that our democracy won’t crumble because of policy disagreements alone, but when the how of our discourse erodes dignity, accountability, and truth. This moment demands we say: that’s enough.
If we don’t insist on better — in our news feeds, in our debates, in our laws — we’ll settle for a very different future than the one we want. Let’s hold ourselves and our leaders to it.

Last week, I stumbled upon a powerful reflection that ties together three seemingly disparate stories—a gentle eulogy, a classic film, and Civil War battlefields—to reveal a timeless truth: it’s not just what we do that shapes our legacy, but how we do it. From Tip O’Neill’s humble act of kindness to battlefield compassion and cinematic life lessons, the post urges us to lead—and debate—with empathy, respect, and integrity, even when stakes are high.
In an age where partisanship often overshadows principle, my newest blog post invites us to ask: Can we rise above division and act with decency toward those who disagree? How we do it truly matters.

“It’s not just redistricting—it’s an arms race to engineer electoral outcomes. In “Why Gerrymandering Poses a Real Danger to Fair Elections in 2026,” my newest blog post, I unpack the alarming escalation in Texas.
☑️ A presidential call to redraw maps in broad daylight
☑️ Democratic lawmakers fleeing the state to block a quorum
☑️ GOP plans to secure up to five additional U.S. House seats
☑️ Retaliation threats from Democratic governors in California and Illinois
This moment isn't harmless political gamesmanship—democracy is on the line. This blog highlights the dangerous consequences of allowing politicians to pick their voters. In the end, gerrymandering sends more extreme politicians of both parties to Washington, beholden more to their party leadership than to the local needs of their constituents.
Read it now and join the conversation—because democracy is too important to let politicians warp the rules.

"Don't run [for office] unless you're willing to meet every voter three times—and eat even more pancakes."
That was just one takeaway from my recent conversation on Rock, Paper, Hand Grenades with hosts Joshua Soloman and JP Marzullo. We covered everything from campaign money and grassroots strategy to why good candidates burn out before ballots hit the box.
We also asked a real question more voters—and candidates—need to consider:
🗳️ Why do voters in New Hampshire choose Republicans locally but Democrats federally?
- Is it about constituent services?
- Is it fundraising firepower?
- Or is it just that the maple syrup from Vermont tastes better?
I haven’t made a final decision yet about entering the Senate race—but I have made this one: If we want better candidates, we need to support people who run the right way, even when they don’t win the first time.
🎧 Watch the full interview for real talk about campaigns, bipartisanship, and what it takes to win in a state where voters still expect to shake your hand three times before casting a ballot.

From airport pickups to public policy, my latest blog post explores how the way we see things—and the grace we give each other—can shape everything from our mood to our democracy.
Through real-life moments and thoughtful commentary, this piece reminds us:
☑️ That a $1 tip can mean more than $100 depending on the giver.
☑️ That empathy is often born from being knocked down.
☑️ That the best public policy is made not from privilege, but from walking in someone else’s shoes.
Whether you're building a company culture, shaping legislation, or simply navigating daily life—this is a must-read for anyone who believes compassion and accountability can coexist.

🧭 Leadership reveals character most in moments of conflict.
In a recent blog post, I unpack a timeless warning: don’t become the very thing you’re fighting against.
Whether in boardrooms or on the political stage, the temptation to justify questionable tactics “for the greater good” is real. But at what cost?
I hope this is an impactful read for anyone navigating power, influence, and moral complexity in today’s high-stakes environments.

🗽 As fireworks prepped and hot dogs hit the grill, Walter McFarlane joined WFEA 1370AM to talk with Jeff Chidester about something deeper than barbecue: the importance of civics education, moderation in politics, and remembering the principles our country was founded on.
From a heartfelt tribute to a passionate history teacher…to dissecting the real-world impact of a 904-page budget bill…to calling out the need for principled moderates who can lead with consensus, not chaos—this conversation was a reminder that understanding our democracy is just as American as apple pie (or ketchup-covered hot dogs, if you’re Walter).

Every successful leader knows this truth: growth doesn’t happen in a straight line. It winds through uncomfortable transitions, hard pivots, and yes—awkward phases.
In my latest blog, I reflect on the value of these in-between moments—particularly in leadership, political policy, and enterprise. If you're navigating change, building consensus, or steering through uncertain terrain, this is worth your time.

📌 Resilience, clarity, and vision are sharpened in the messy middle
