Just a designer splitting my time between working on HGTV's Farmhouse Fixer and running my New Engla

Some people collect shoes. I collect seltzer bottles. We all have our things.

Vertically Challenged People Problems: the tongs aren’t for cooking, they’re for reaching things on the top shelf.

Design tip from experience: always buy the good lightweight bunk mattress.

Nothing will make you question your decisions faster than trying to change sheets on a typical one later. Your future self will thank you.

Says the girl that’s been crammed in the corner with sheets and nearly fell out of the bunk…..

Kirby does most of the art hanging around here, which means his “day off” usually looks a lot like this. Ladder out, level in hand, me saying “maybe an inch to the left?” at least 14 times.

And yes, those are oven mitts on the ladder so we don’t scuff the walls. Because around here we protect the paint job at all costs.

Tiny detail, big difference.

Don’t forget to consider any soffits or ceiling angles when wallpapering a room. This can go so bad, soooo fast.

This is why having the right wallpaper installer matters so much. A good installer doesn’t just “hang wallpaper.” They think ahead about pattern, placement, sight lines, corners and how the room unfolds as you walk through it. This tiny space needed just as much consideration!

Luckily for us, we have Ryan attached as our personal security blanket when it comes to wallpaper!

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. These two offices are mirror images of each other in layout. It’s fun to stand in the hallway and realize the similarities… pretty much stop there.

This cottage was so tiny that the garage actually felt generous in comparison, so Kcs Architects carved out two work-from-home offices above it. Each needed a desk, each needed a trundle bed, and once those essentials were locked in, it was time for the fun part… designing two spaces with the same bones, but completely different personalities.

And before anyone points it out… yes, the sconces next to the drapes are mounted horizontally in these photos. They were supposed to be vertical. I promise I am not trying to burn the house down.

+ both rugs are from Landry & Arcari Rugs and Carpeting (my favorite!)

Memorial Day is a day to be celebrated.

My dad served in the Army and my Papa served in the Coast Guard. I’ve been so lucky to have the best parts of these two men woven into who I am. Strong, steady, hardworking, and always showing up for the people they love.

Remembering and honoring them today and everyday. 🇺🇸

The joys of our job? When we find something we like but it isn’t totally right for the space - you go custom! We found a wallpaper we really liked but the colors and scale just didn’t work with the rug we already purchased. SO many samples later that were generally right but just didn’t work.

‘We’ve got people’ is never so much more true than with interior designers. Here, my secret weapon was Katie from my team who also designed this interior alongside me. What you might not know is Katie is an artist as well and in the early seasons of Farmhouse Fixer she painted a huge amount of the artwork you saw on the show! (legal rights to use … thats a WHOLE other topic!)

On this more modern project we got to have her bring that same skill set into this more illustrative, wallpaper-focused direction. Katie got to completely disappear down the rabbit hole of process on this one.

Rather than working with paints she started with hand-sketching every single swimmer individually on her iPad before moving into digital illustration and composition in Procreate. From there it became a whole lot of experimenting with scale, spacing, color, and yes... endless rounds of renderings and samples until it felt just right.

The goal was never to make it feel overly perfect or computer-generated. We wanted it to feel playful, custom, and really connected to the home itself. The kind of detail you may not notice immediately, but once you do... you can’t imagine the space without it.

Good job Katie!

Stay with me while I geek out about process…

Ever wonder what’s going on inside Kristina’s brain? Welp. Here it is.

A behind-the-scenes look at me measuring with absolute precision and laying out this hanging buoy art piece on the floor first. (Not pictured: me stepping back 47 times to make sure it’s juuuust right.)

The goal is always for a space to feel collected and easy, even though there’s an alarming amount of math going on.
