Respecting taxpayers is not an attack on public schools - Manchester Ink Link There is a troubling argument being made in Manchester right now: that supporting the tax cap, questioning the school budget, or asking for accountability somehow means a person wants to cripple public schools.

Republicans passed HB 155 to send $9 million to local nursing homes, all without raising a cent of taxes.
When given the chance to support our most vulnerable citizens, Democrats voted NO.
Granite State seniors will remember that House Democrats turned their backs on them.

๐จ Some Things Never Change ๐จ
In 2022, four current members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Jim Burkush, June Trisciani, Christine Fajardo, and Bill Barry voted to override Manchester's tax cap and approve a budget for FY2023 that exceeded the limit approved by voters.
Next week they will be back with a majority of the board attempting to override it again.
โ ๏ธ Taxpayers should be concerned. โ ๏ธ
The issue has never been a single budget year.
The issue is whether the tax cap remains a meaningful limit on government spending, or simply an obstacle to be ignored whenever City Hall wants to spend more.
๐ฎ Manchester residents support public safety.
๐ Manchester residents support first responders.
๐๏ธ Manchester residents support investing in our city.
๐ฐ But Manchester residents also support accountability, fiscal discipline, and protecting taxpayers.
The tax cap was adopted by voters for a reason.
๐ It was intended to force City Hall to:
โ
Set priorities
โ
Find efficiencies
โ
Eliminate waste
โ
Live within reasonable limits
Just like the families and businesses that pay the bills.
โWhen does it stopโ
๐ Same playbook.
๐ฅ Same players.
๐ธ Another override.
๐ข CALL TO ACTION ๐ข
Join me at the next Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting and tell the board to reject any tax cap override and adopt a tax-cap compliant budget.
