The cable sheath in a fiber optic cable refers to the outer protective layer or covering that surrounds the internal components of the cable, including the fiber strands. This sheath serves several important functions:

Cable sheaths are typically made from tough materials like polyethylene or PVC. Depending on the application, they may include fire resistance, rodent armor, or other protective features—especially in single-mode or multi-mode cables.
